As several K-pop stars approach the end of their mandatory military service, fans are eagerly awaiting their return to the stage. Some of the most prominent idols, including BTS‘ J-Hope and GOT7‘s Jinyoung, are set to be discharged in the coming months. These artists, who enlisted last year, will soon rejoin the music industry after completing their 18-month military duties. The following provides details of their upcoming discharges.

BTS’ J-Hope Prepares to Return to Civilian Life

J-Hope from BTS will be discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service on October 17, 2024. After Jin, he became the second BTS member to enlist, marking another significant step for the group’s gradual return to the music world. In September, J-Hope gave fans an update via Weverse, where he shared reflections on his time in service. According to fan translations, he expressed a mix of nostalgia and relief as the final days of his military duties approached.

He described packing up his belongings and reflecting on the experiences that had shaped his time in the military. He mentioned how the new recruits reminded him of his early days in the army, noting how nervous and uncertain he felt at the start. J-Hope’s personal insights offered a rare glimpse into how he’s grown through the experience and how he’s looking forward to life after his military service.

The discharge of Jin in December 2023 also sparked excitement, as fans are looking forward to the eventual return of all the BTS members. The remaining members RM, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are set to complete their military service by June 2025.

GOT7’s Jinyoung to Finish Military Service Soon

Jinyoung, a key member of GOT7, began his military service on May 8, 2023. His discharge is scheduled for November 7, 2024, just over a year and a half after he enlisted. Despite his military duties, Jinyoung has remained in the public eye, attending his sister’s wedding and reuniting with fellow celebrities. His presence at the event, alongside BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo and NCT’s Doyoung, drew attention from fans, reminding them of his ongoing influence in the entertainment world even while serving.

Fans of GOT7 are eagerly waiting for Jinyoung’s return, as they anticipate both solo projects and possible group activities. He follows in the footsteps of Jay B, another GOT7 member, who will complete his military duties on November 1, 2024.

WINNER Members to Return by Late 2024

WINNER’s Seungyoon and Mino are also on the list of K-pop artists scheduled to complete their military service this year. Seungyoon began his duties on June 20, 2023, and will be discharged on December 19, 2024. He has been a vital part of WINNER’s musical journey, and fans are eager to see what the group has in store once both Seungyoon and Mino return.

Mino, another central figure in WINNER, enlisted in March 2023 and is expected to complete his service on December 23, 2024. Known for his work as a solo artist and his contributions to WINNER, Mino’s discharge is highly anticipated, with fans looking forward to new music and performances.

Military Service on K-pop Artists

Military service is mandatory for all able-bodied South Korean men, and K-pop idols are no exception. This requirement often results in a temporary hiatus for groups and solo artists alike, as they must pause their careers to fulfill their civic duty. For groups like BTS and GOT7, the staggered enlistment schedules of members mean that their return to group activities is delayed. However, it also gives fans time to focus on the solo efforts of each member before they reunite.

The return of artists such as J-Hope, Jinyoung, Seungyoon, and Mino marks a significant moment for the K-pop industry. Fans are anticipating their re-entry into the music world, knowing that these artists will bring fresh perspectives and experiences gained during their time in the military.

With 2024 set to be a year of major discharges, it signals a potential resurgence of these artists’ careers and the revival of group activities. Fans are hopeful for new albums, tours, and performances once these stars complete their military duties.
