Popular Twitch streamer ExtraEmily has been suspended from the platform following a viral clip that showed her nearly crashing her car while driving and interacting with her livestream chat. The incident, which took place during her IRL broadcast on June 28, 2026, has sparked widespread criticism and renewed calls for stricter platform rules against streaming while driving.
Distracted Driving Clip Leads to Twitch Suspension
The controversial moment happened about an hour and 25 minutes into ExtraEmily’s livestream. While making a left turn, the streamer appeared to be looking down at her phone to read messages from her chat. A Mazda SUV was approaching from the opposite direction, and she seemed not to notice the other vehicle immediately.
Just before the two cars could collide, the other driver honked their horn, catching her attention. She quickly corrected her steering and avoided a crash. No one was injured, and there was no damage to either vehicle.
On camera, ExtraEmily immediately acknowledged her mistake, saying:
“Oh, sorry! My bad! That was my bad. I’ve got to check myโฆ whoopsies!”
She also thanked the other driver for honking, which helped prevent a much more serious situation. Later in the stream, she mentioned that she had been using her Tesla’s Autopilot before the incident but had switched it off shortly before the close call.
Twitch Enforces Community Guidelines
Within a day of the clip spreading across social media platforms, ExtraEmily’s channel was taken offline. Viewers visiting her profile now see the standard message stating she cannot stream due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines.
Twitch’s rules explicitly prohibit distracted driving during broadcasts, and actions where streamers take their eyes off the road or hands off the steering wheel can result in an automatic account suspension. While the exact length of the ban has not been confirmed by the platform, temporary suspensions typically last between 24 hours and 30 days.
Netizens Call for Stricter Punishment
Social media users quickly reacted to the suspension, with many expressing frustration that this was not ExtraEmily’s first offense. A significant number of viewers argued that the punishment should be more severe given the repetitive nature of the incidents.
One user commented on the situation directly:
“Should be permanent.”
Others pointed out the potential consequences of distracted driving, with one user stating:
“She was driving, chatting and texting on her phone at the same time. Almost hit an oncoming vehicle. Irresponsible behaviour.”
The conversation also extended to the broader issue of streaming while driving, with some calling for a complete ban on such content across the platform. Another user wrote:
“Am I the only one who thinks driving and streaming should be banned for real. that clip was actually scary but shes gonna get unbanned in a week anyway because twitch ceo lets girls slide every time.”
Some viewers joked about the situation, saying, “Streamers need to go to how to be a human University before becoming a streamer”. Others predicted the suspension would be short-lived, with a user commenting, “Only gonna be a 7 day ban at most lmao”.

A History of Driving Incidents
This is not the first time ExtraEmily, whose real name is Emily Xuechun Zhang, has faced consequences for distracted driving on stream. In October 2023, she received a suspension after being caught using her phone while driving. Then, in April 2025, she was banned for one day after a clip showed her running a red light while looking at her phone.
The 2025 incident, which happened in Austin, Texas, also drew significant backlash. At that time, she brushed off the violation, saying:
“In Austin, you know, the stoplights here are really long. So, usually I just go past. It’s fine.”
The pattern of behavior has caused many viewers to question whether stronger measures are needed for IRL streamers who put themselves and others at risk for content. The recent incident has become a major talking point in the streaming community, with many expressing frustration over what they see as a lack of accountability for creators.
