The actress opened up about feeling intimidated by her legendary co-star during a recent cast reunion, revealing Streep stayed fully in character as Miranda Priestly.
Emily Blunt got honest about her feelings while filming the first The Devil Wears Prada movie. She said she was “quite scared” of Meryl Streep on set.
The cast recently came together for a SiriusXM Front Row chat. Andy Cohen hosted the conversation. Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all joined to talk about the original film and the upcoming sequel.
Blunt Says Streep Stayed in ‘Miranda Zone’
Cohen asked Blunt if she felt intimidated working with Streep. The actress did not hold back.
“I mean, on the first one, I was quite scared because I feel like you were in a zone… She was in a Miranda zone,” Blunt told Streep during the chat. Miranda Priestly is the tough editor-in-chief of Runway magazine.
Streep quickly agreed with her co-star. “Oh, yeah. I was in that zone,” the Oscar winner replied.

Blunt explained that Streep stayed serious for most of the filming. She did not break character easily. The actress added that while Streep was not impossible to talk to, she kept a certain distance.
“Not impenetrable, but we could come up and tell you a funny story, but you wouldn’t do your extraordinary laugh that I normally hear,” Blunt shared.
Streep Explains Her Process for Playing Miranda
Meryl Streep then talked about how she created the powerful presence of Miranda Priestly. She said she kept a “slight remove” from the rest of the cast.
“The first three days I went and hung around the camera with the director, you know, and then we’d go on to do the scene… it was just like a remove. A slight remove. The authority, the thing,” Streep explained.
She also said that staying apart from the group helped her feel more like the boss on screen. Streep mentioned that she sometimes sat in her trailer alone while the other cast members had fun together.
“She was saying the same thing. You know, they kind of don’t want you at the cast party, right? It’s like you have to have just a little bit of a barrier to feel like the boss… When I went back and was miserable in my trailer and heard them all in the makeup trailer… having a great time, you know,” Streep said.
When someone asked if it was hard to stay “method” for the role, Streep simply answered, “No.”
