The Story So Far
The anime is based on a popular light novel series written by Ezogingitune with illustrations by DeeCHA. The story centers on Luck, an S-rank mage who was part of the hero’s party.
During a critical battle against the Demon King and endless demon hordes, Luck made the decision to stay behind while his companions escaped. He fought alone in a rift between dimensions for what felt like a short time. But when he finally defeated the demons and returned, ten years had passed in the outside world. The world now celebrates him as a legendary hero who was presumed dead.
In Episode 1, Luck returned to find his former party members—Erik the hero and Golan the warrior—still alive and successful. However, he could not simply go back to his old life. He decided to start over with a new identity, taking the name Lock and registering as an F-rank adventurer.
Episode 2 showed Luck reuniting with his old friends and meeting Sia Wolcott, a werewolf hunter who tracks vampires. The episode focused on Luck adjusting to a world that had changed drastically in his absence.
Episode 3 and Episode 4 continued Luck’s journey as he took on tasks as an F-rank adventurer while hiding his true legendary status. The series explores how Luck’s past actions shaped the world and how he now navigates a new life among people who do not know who he really is.
What to Expect in Episode 5
Episode 5 will likely continue Luck’s adventures as an F-rank adventurer. With his new identity as Lock, he faces everyday challenges that are far below his true power level. The episode is expected to show more of the fantasy world and how Luck’s legendary past influences his present actions.

Production Background
The light novel series was originally serialized on the user-generated novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō from June 2018 to January 2021. It was later acquired by SB Creative and published under their GA Novel imprint starting in February 2019. A manga adaptation illustrated by Chako Abeno began serialization on Square Enix‘s Manga Up! platform in August 2019. The light novel has reached seven volumes, and the manga has 17 volumes. Combined, the two versions have over 4.45 million copies in circulation.
The anime was originally scheduled for an April 2026 premiere but was delayed to July to ensure a more polished production.
