Netflix has added another big name to its upcoming adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel The Secret of Secrets. The streaming service confirmed on July 31 that actress Rebecca Hall will play the female lead, Katherine Solomon, in the untitled series. Hall joins the project just days after her husband, Morgan Spector, was announced as the new Robert Langdon.
The casting puts a real-life married couple at the center of the show. Hall and Spector will play on-screen romantic partners, with Hall portraying a scientist who is also Langdon’s girlfriend. The series is based on Brown’s sixth Robert Langdon novel, which was published by Doubleday on September 9, 2025.
Hall Takes on Role of Katherine Solomon
Rebecca Hall, 44, will play Katherine Solomon, a noetic scientist and the love interest of Robert Langdon. The character first appeared in Brown’s earlier book Angels & Demons. In the novel, Solomon goes missing after giving a lecture in Prague about a manuscript whose research could change how humanity understands the mind.
Hall’s character is central to the story. Langdon must race against time and ancient forces to rescue her and recover her work. Series co-creator and showrunner Carlton Cuse told Netflix’s Tudum that this marks a new chapter for the Langdon character. “For the first time ever, Robert Langdon has a serious love interest — and that changes many of the ways he sees the world,” Cuse said.
Real-Life Couple to Share the Screen
The production has generated extra interest because Hall and Spector are married in real life. The couple has been married since 2015. They have worked together before on the movies Christine and Permission, as well as in the plays Machinal and Animal. However, this will be their first television series together.
Morgan Spector, 45, is known for his role on the HBO series The Gilded Age. He will play Professor Robert Langdon, the famous symbologist and cryptologist previously portrayed by Tom Hanks in three films. The role is a major career step for Spector, who takes over an iconic character from one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
Spector’s casting was announced earlier in July. The actor was chosen to lead the series after what sources described as a competitive process.
What to Expect from the Series
The series is still untitled but is based on the world of The Secret of Secrets. Netflix describes the show as a mystery thriller that blends futuristic science with mystical lore. The story follows Langdon as he tries to rescue a missing scientist and recover her manuscript.
Carlton Cuse, known for his work on Lost, Jack Ryan, and Locke and Key, serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Dan Brown is also on board as co-creator and executive producer. Other executive producers include Emma Forman of Genre Arts and Zoe Robyn.
The project landed at Netflix in May 2025 with a straight-to-series order. Production is set to begin this fall in Prague.
The Robert Langdon Franchise Continues
The Secret of Secrets is the sixth book in Brown’s Robert Langdon series. The character has appeared in five previous books: Angels & Demons (2000), The Da Vinci Code (2003), The Lost Symbol (2009), Inferno (2013), and Origin (2017).
Tom Hanks played Langdon in the film adaptations of The Da Vinci Code (2006), Angels & Demons (2009), and Inferno (2016). Those films grossed approximately $2.24 billion worldwide. Brown’s novels have sold over 250 million copies in 56 languages.
A previous attempt to bring the Langdon universe to television happened in 2021. Peacock adapted The Lost Symbol as a series, but it only ran for one season. Netflix’s new project marks the second major small-screen attempt at the franchise.
Hall’s Growing Presence on Netflix
Rebecca Hall is no stranger to Netflix. She also appears in the upcoming fourth season of Ryan Murphy’s Monster anthology series, where she plays Lizzie Borden’s stepmother. She recently starred in another Murphy series, The Beauty.
Hall’s film credits include The Prestige, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Town, and Godzilla vs. Kong. She also made her directorial debut with the Netflix film Passing.
The actress has several other projects in the works. She stars in the horror film A Head Full of Ghosts opposite David Harbour and appears in Zero Protocol. Her next film, Onslaught directed by Adam Wingard, hits theaters on September 4.
