The two-part epic, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, is generating significant excitement in one of the world’s biggest film markets.

Chinese Viewers Praise Visuals and Scale

Chinese audiences have responded very positively to the Ramayana trailer. Many comments on social media highlight the film’s stunning visuals and production quality.

One viewer wrote, “Those visuals are stunning. Truly a world apart from those cheap fantasy dramas with green screen”. Another comment called Ramayana “India’s own Odyssey,” comparing it to the famous Greek epic.

Some viewers even said the film’s effects are better than Hollywood blockbusters. One comment read, “The filming is better than Legendary,” referring to Legendary Entertainment, the studio behind films like Godzilla and the Jurassic World franchise.

A social media user shared, “Chinese audience on Ramayana, that’s diff b/w them and us, they are praising despite they have biggest cinema market in the world and we are hating”. Another viewer added, “You can always trust Indian mythological movies”.

Film Gets New Title for China Release

Ramayana will release in China under a different title. The film is now called Ramayana: The Legend of the Prince for the Chinese market.

Sony Pictures is handling the global distribution. The company shared the new title through its official Weibo account.

The title change is a common practice for international releases. It helps the film connect better with local audiences. The makers chose this title to make the epic story more accessible to Chinese viewers.

Release Date and Different Versions

Ramayana: Part One will release worldwide on November 6, 2026. The film will arrive in Indian theaters on November 8, two days later, to coincide with the Diwali festival.

The Chinese version of the film will be 33 minutes shorter than the Indian release. This is due to China’s film censorship laws. A source explained, “China’s Film Industry Promotion Law prohibits content that seeks to undermine the state’s religious policies or promotes heresy or superstition”.

Since Ramayana is based on an ancient Indian epic, the filmmakers had to adjust certain elements for the Chinese version.

Star Cast and Production Details

The film brings together a strong ensemble cast:

  • Ravi Dubey as Lakshman

The cast also includes Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor.

Ramayana is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made, with a budget of around ₹4,000 crore. The music is composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.

Some Viewers Suggest Different Actor for Lord Rama

While most Chinese viewers praised the trailer, some suggested a different actor for the role of Lord Rama. Several comments mentioned Sourabh Raaj Jain as a better choice.

Jain is known for playing Lord Krishna in the TV show Mahabharat (2013-14) and Lord Vishnu in Mahadev (2014). Both shows were very popular in China.

One comment read, “They are all avatars of Vishnu. Why not cast SRJ to play”. Another viewer said, “It’s still most suitable for SRJ to play”.

Despite this feedback, the overall response from Chinese audiences has been very positive. Most viewers focused on the film’s grand visuals and scale rather than the casting.

Ramayana’s Popularity in China

The story of Ramayana is already known to many Chinese audiences. The epic is connected to the Jataka tales, and the stories of Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman are part of Chinese folk traditions.

Several Indian films have done well in China before. Nitesh Tiwari‘s earlier film Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, became a huge hit in China after its 2017 release. It earned more than ₹1,000 crore in the Chinese market.

The release of Ramayana in China could help bring more Indian films to Chinese audiences. A source noted that this “has the potential to renew the neighbouring country’s interest in Indian films”.
