The Drug Scandal That Stopped His Career
Yoo Ah In’s career came to a halt in 2023. He was accused of habitually using illegal drugs. Investigators said he used propofol, a medical anesthetic, illegally. He allegedly received it at hospitals in Seoul on 181 occasions between 2020 and 2022. He was also accused of using other drugs like marijuana, midazolam, and ketamine.
In February 2025 , the court sentenced him to one year in prison. The sentence was suspended for two years. He was also fined 2 million won (about $1,420). The Supreme Court finalized this sentence about five months later. His probation period runs until July 2027.
An appeals court had earlier reduced his punishment. They stated: “Considering the motive, method, consequences, and post-offence circumstances, the initial sentence was too harsh and unfair”.
