Taylor Sheridan has officially shut down any hope for the long-rumored ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff series ‘6666’. In a recent podcast appearance, the creator made it clear that the Texas ranch spinoff will never happen, putting an end to years of fan speculation.
The 6666 Ranch spinoff was first announced by Paramount back in 2021. The show was expected to follow Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) after he was sent to the legendary Texas ranch in Season 4 of Yellowstone. But after five years of silence and delays, Sheridan has finally given a definitive answer.
Sheridan’s Reason: He Won’t Fictionalize a Real Ranch
Sheridan appeared on the August 17 episode of the “Rodeo Time” podcast with host Dale Brisby. When asked about the 6666 project, he did not hold back.
“There’s never going to be one. I would never fictionalize that ranch. People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”
The 6666 Ranch is not a made-up location like the Dutton family’s Montana ranch. It is a real, working cattle and horse ranch in Texas that was founded in 1870. Sheridan and a group of investors purchased the property in 2022 for a reported $320 million. Because it is an active ranch with real families living and working there, Sheridan feels a strong responsibility to protect it.
“If I was gonna try and make some kind of show about 6666, now I’m making up lives, now I have to invent a drama. We can’t just watch some kid learn how to rope every episode. So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there. I could never do that to them.”
Sheridan added that he is “very protective of the Sixes” and that it is a “big responsibility” to protect the ranch’s brand.
What About Jimmy’s Story?
Fans assumed the spinoff was in the works because Jimmy’s arc in Season 4 set it up perfectly. The character was sent from Montana to the 6666 Ranch in Texas to improve his cowboy skills. The show even featured real ranch workers in those episodes.
Sheridan acknowledged that he has actually edited all of Jimmy’s 6666 scenes together into one continuous film.
“I’ve actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the 6666 pulled out and strung together, and it makes its own perfect little movie. You watch him go there as this misfit, and leave as a man and a respected cowboy.”
But he made it clear that this collection of scenes is not a series. A full show would require making up new stories and drama, which he is not willing to do.
How Did We Get Here?
The ‘6666’ spinoff was originally announced in February 2021 as part of Sheridan’s slate of shows for Paramount+. At the time, it was grouped with projects like ‘1883’ and ‘Landman’. The announcement came just before Yellowstone Season 4 premiered, where viewers saw Jimmy head to the Texas ranch.
In 2022, Sheridan’s group bought the actual 6666 Ranch. That purchase made fans even more certain that a spinoff was coming. But year after year, there was no real movement on the project.
Now, Sheridan has officially closed the door.
What Other Yellowstone Spinoffs Are Still Happening?
While ‘6666’ is dead, the Yellowstone universe is still very much alive. Two spinoffs are currently ongoing:
- ‘Dutton Ranch’ – This series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) after the events of the original show.
- ‘Marshals’ – This show centers on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes).
Both shows have been renewed for second seasons.
Sheridan also has several other projects in the works, including ‘Landman’ Season 3, ‘The Madison’ Season 2, ‘Frisco King’ Season 1, and the currently-airing ‘Lioness’ Season 3.
A prequel titled ‘1944’ is also reportedly in pre-production.

Sheridan’s decision comes down to one simple fact: the 6666 Ranch is not a movie set. It is a historic working ranch where real cowboys work and real families raise their children. He does not want to turn their lives into entertainment.
“I could never do that to the cowboys who dedicated themselves and everybody that works on that ranch.”
For now, fans will have to be satisfied with the Jimmy compilation that Sheridan has on his computer. But a full series set on the 6666 will never see the light of day.
