The final season of Outer Banks arrived on Netflix on August 20, 2026, bringing the treasure-hunting adventure to a close after five seasons. The series finale gave viewers a proper goodbye to the Pogues, and those who stayed until the very end got a special reward.
The episode delivered a wedding, a heartfelt monologue, and a post-credit surprise that honored the show’s loyal fanbase. For a show that never used post-credit scenes before, the creative team decided to change that for the final episode.
The Wedding Scene That Wrapped Up the Pogue Journey
The finale’s closing moments showed John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) finally getting married. The ceremony took place in front of their family and friends, including the rest of the Pogues.
Before the wedding, Pope (Jonathan Daviss) helped John B find his missing wedding ring and encouraged him not to be nervous. The two shared a warm moment before the ceremony began.
John B delivered a monologue that summed up the Pogues’ journey:
“We had gotten everything that we ever wanted and all the things we gone through, all the times spent searching, all the hardships, all the mistakes and the one big loss.”
The song “Weather Report” by The Tennors played as Sarah and John B exchanged vows. Their friends and family became emotional during the ceremony.
John B closed his speech with a powerful message:
“Maybe it didn’t make it worth it but finally for once we’d got a win. Us. The Pogues. And one win we weren’t greedy. That was enough for us. One win. That was enough to last the whole life.”
He reflected that while the Pogues traveled the world searching for treasure, they ultimately found everything they needed back where their journey started – the Outer Banks, which he called “Paradise on Earth”.
A Special Credits Montage for Fans
As the credits began to roll, viewers got an extra treat. The show included a photo and video montage featuring additional moments from John B and Sarah’s wedding and reception.
The montage showed:
- Photos from the wedding ceremony
- A Twinkie-shaped wedding cake
- Clips of the Pogues and guests dancing at the reception
- A cameo from Rafe (Drew Starkey), who joined the celebration through a FaceTime call
The montage ended with John B carrying his bride across the threshold of their home. Viewers also got a glimpse of John B and Sarah’s baby son, whom they named JJ in honor of their fallen friend.
Rafe and Sofia (Fiona Palomo) made their exit from the Outer Banks, with Rafe bidding a final goodbye to his sister Sarah and the Pogues.
The Post-Credit Surprise: P4L
Unlike typical post-credit scenes that tease future adventures, the Outer Banks finale offered something different. There was no bonus video or scene setting up another story.
Instead, fans who sat through the full credits saw a simple title card that read “P4L”.
For longtime viewers, this was a callback to the show’s famous tagline, “Pogues 4 Life“. The show had never used post-credit content before, making this a special moment for the fans who had supported the series throughout its run.
It was a small but meaningful way to close out the series and honor the audience that helped make Outer Banks a global hit.
Kiara Finally Gets Her Revenge
While the finale ended on a happy note, the road to get there was filled with danger. Kiara (Madison Bailey) finally got her revenge against Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane), the man who killed her boyfriend JJ (Rudy Pankow).
In the final episode, Groff stole gold that belonged to the Pogues and escaped on a boat. Kiara followed him and stowed away on the same boat.
A fight broke out between them on the ocean. Groff knocked Kiara off balance, but she managed to wrap a rope around his body. As he hung above the water, Kiara cut the rope, dropping him into the ocean where the weight of a sail beam dragged him down.
Groff died at Kiara’s hands, giving her the closure she needed after losing JJ.

Every Pogue Finds Their Happy Ending
The series finale made sure each character got a satisfying conclusion.
John B used some of the Royal Merchant gold to buy back the land where he used to live and rebuild his father’s house. A year after the events of the final season, he married Sarah in the backyard.
Kiara bought a boat for her parents and finally moved on from JJ’s death. She played a key role in taking down Groff and helping the Pogues secure their future.
Pope proposed to Cleo (Carlacia Grant), and the two began figuring out their life together after everything the group had survived.
Rafe and Sofia escaped the Outer Banks together, with Rafe admitting to killing Sheriff Peterkin but promising never to return.
A Prequel Is Already in Development
Even though Outer Banks has ended, the story isn’t completely over. A prequel series called Kildare is currently in development.
The creators have shared that the show will take place twenty years before the events of Outer Banks. It will explore the origins of the social divide between the Kooks and the Pogues on the island.
Fans of the original series can look forward to learning more about how the class conflict on the Outer Banks first began.

A Fitting Goodbye to the Pogues
The Outer Banks finale gave fans exactly what they wanted – a happy ending for the Pogues. The wedding between John B and Sarah felt like the right way to close out their love story.
The post-credit “P4L” title card was a perfect final touch. It reminded viewers that even though the show is over, the spirit of the Pogues lives on.
The series may have started as a treasure hunt, but it ended by showing that the real treasure was always the friendships and family the characters built along the way. That message came through loud and clear in the final episode.
