BTS member j-hope surprised fans during the second night of the ARIRANG World Tour in Los Angeles by showing a new tattoo on his thigh. The design comes straight from the group’s 2021 hit “Butter” music video, where all seven members form the word “ARMY” with their bodies.

The reveal happened during the soundcheck before the September 2 concert at SoFi Stadium. Fans at the venue quickly noticed the large new ink on the back of j-hope’s right thigh. What made the moment more special was how the other members helped show it off to the crowd.

Tattoo Design Directly From “Butter” Music Video

The tattoo shows silhouettes of all seven BTS members arranged to spell out “ARMY”. This pose became famous during the “Butter” era, when the group performed the choreography that had them lining up to form the letters. Instead of getting the word “ARMY” inked directly, j-hope chose an image that represents both the group and their fans together.

RM, V, and Jimin played a key role in the reveal. During the soundcheck, Jimin first showed the tattoo to fans. Later in the main concert, V helped j-hope stand up and lift the edge of his shorts so everyone could see the full design. RM made sure the big screen showed the tattoo clearly and told the audience it was the biggest tattoo j-hope had ever gotten.

RM spoke about the meaning behind the ink, saying:

“I want to show J-Hope’s new tattoo. Do you guys see that? That’s the biggest tattoo he’s ever had. ARMY with BTS.”

j-hope shouted into the microphone: “BTS ARMY FOREVER!” after showing the design.

Fans React With Emotion Across Social Media

Social media platforms lit up after videos and photos from the soundcheck spread online. Fans recognized the “Butter” choreography reference right away. Many ARMY members saw the tattoo as a permanent gift from j-hope to the fandom.

The design carries deep meaning for fans. It connects the seven members with their supporters in one single image. For many, it represents the bond BTS has built with ARMY over the years. The reference to “Butter” also ties the tattoo to a major period in the group’s career when the song became a global hit and broke multiple records.

This new tattoo adds to j-hope’s existing collection. He already has a number 7 tattoo on his calf, which all members got together. Each member chose a different spot for their 7 tattoo, and when placed together, the designs form the word “BTS”. RM also recently got a new tattoo that says “A HUMAN” on his biceps.

The Los Angeles concert marked the final US stop of the ARIRANG World Tour. BTS performed four sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium. The second night also featured surprise performances of “Love Maze” and “Silver Spoon” (Baepsae), which the crowd sang along to from start to finish. South Korean football captain Son Heung-min was also spotted in the audience enjoying the show.
