A new behind-the-scenes clip from Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest has led to questions about how Doctor Strange’s memory spell worked in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The footage shows Emily Hampshire‘s humanized version of E.D.I.T.H. making a comment that suggests she still remembers her time with Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as Spider-Man.
What the VisionQuest Clip Shows
The clip comes from Entertainment Tonight‘s coverage of the VisionQuest set. In the scene, Vision (Paul Bettany) is talking with E.D.I.T.H. in the Mindscape. Vision mentions he is having a “profoundly difficult time navigating teenagers.” E.D.I.T.H. replies, “Tell me about it. My first boss was a junior in high school.”
This line refers to Peter Parker, who received the E.D.I.T.H. glasses from Tony Stark after his death in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Peter used the glasses and the AI system during that film.
Why This Matters for Spider-Man’s Secret Identity
The end of Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) cast a spell that made the entire world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. The spell also erased all memory of Peter Parker’s existence as a person. This left Peter alone, with no friends or family remembering him.
The implication that E.D.I.T.H. remembers Peter suggests that the spell did not affect artificial intelligence the same way it affected humans. Since E.D.I.T.H. is a machine-based system and not a human being, Doctor Strange’s magic may not have been able to erase her memories.
This idea is similar to what happened with the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In that film, the Hulk appeared to remember Peter Parker even though Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) did not. The explanation was that the Hulk is a separate personality from Banner and was not present when the spell was cast.
E.D.I.T.H.’s Role in VisionQuest
VisionQuest will be an eight-episode series on Disney+. It premieres on October 14, 2026. The show is a follow-up to WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
Paul Bettany returns as Vision. James Spader returns as Ultron. Emily Hampshire plays the human form of E.D.I.T.H., while other AI characters like J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D’Arcy), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady), D.U.M.-E (Henry Lewis), and U (Jonathan Sayer) also appear in human form.
Showrunner Terry Matalas has said the series takes place after Spider-Man: Brand New Day and will explore Vision’s search for identity. The AI characters help Vision understand humanity as they work together inside his Mindscape to deal with a threat from Ultron.
What This Means for the MCU
The confirmation that E.D.I.T.H. remembers Peter Parker opens a door for the MCU. Peter is currently operating in a world where almost no one knows who he is. If E.D.I.T.H. still has records or memories of Peter, she could potentially serve as a source of information or even an ally for him in future stories.
However, the whereabouts of the E.D.I.T.H. glasses in the MCU is unclear. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the glasses were taken by the Department of Damage Control. According to a readout in that film, the glasses were inactive. Peter lost access to Stark technology after his identity was exposed and the subsequent investigation.
It is also not confirmed whether E.D.I.T.H. remembers Peter’s full name and face, or just that Spider-Man was a high school student. The line in the VisionQuest clip could be interpreted either way.

The series also stars T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, and Faran Tahir as Raza. Terry Matalas serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series has been confirmed to not use generative AI in its production.
