Netflix has given fans a first proper look at the upcoming Peaky Blinders sequel series. The new show brings a major casting change. Jamie Bell will now play Duke Shelby, taking over the role from Barry Keoghan who played the character in last month’s film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. The streaming service also confirmed Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things is joining the cast as a lead.

The sequel series takes place 10 years after the events of The Immortal Man. The story moves the action to Birmingham in the 1950s, following the next generation of the Shelby family. The show already has a two-season order from Netflix and the BBC, with each season running six episodes.

Jamie Bell Steps Into the Role of Duke Shelby for the New Era

Jamie Bell, known for his work in Rocketman and All of Us Strangers, now leads the sequel series as Duke Shelby. He is the oldest son of Cillian Murphy’s original character Thomas Shelby. Barry Keoghan played Duke in The Immortal Man, which came out in March 2026. But the sequel series needed an older actor since the story jumps forward a full decade.

The official description for the show says Duke is “older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.” The character now sits at the center of a Birmingham that is fighting to rebuild itself after World War Two. The city faces intense competition over who will control its reconstruction projects.

I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.

Stranger Things Star Charlie Heaton Joins the Cast

Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers on Stranger Things, is also a lead in the sequel series. Heaton has experience with Netflix hits and also starred in the HBO show Industry. The BBC and Netflix have not yet shared details about what role Heaton will play. But the network confirmed he is part of the main cast alongside Bell.

Full Cast List and New Faces Joining the Show

The sequel series has brought together several well-known actors. Jessica Brown Findlay from Downton Abbey and Silo is part of the cast. Lashana Lynch, who appeared in No Time to Die and The Day of the Jackal, has also signed on. Lucy Karczewski, known for her stage work in Stereophonic, will make her television debut in this series.

Production is already happening at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham. The show is a joint project between Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama. It will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the United Kingdom. Global audiences will find the series on Netflix.

The Story Moves to 1950s Birmingham After World War Two

The sequel series takes place in 1953 Birmingham. The city suffered heavy bombing during World War Two and now tries to build a better future. The official logline explains that “the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions.” The Shelby family remains at the center of the violence and opportunity that follows.

Steven Knight, who created the original series, returns to write and produce the sequel. Cillian Murphy also serves as an executive producer, even though his character Tommy Shelby is not expected to appear following the events of The Immortal Man.

Two Full Seasons Already Confirmed for the Sequel

Netflix and the BBC ordered two seasons of the sequel series from the start. Each season will have six hour-long episodes. The original Peaky Blinders series ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2022. The film The Immortal Man came out in March 2026 and has been the number one movie globally on Netflix for two weeks.

Filming continues in Birmingham. The BBC called this the first commission following a new partnership agreement with the West Midlands Combined Authority. The deal includes a £40 million yearly investment in production in the West Midlands region.

Knight also confirmed more casting announcements are coming. Fans can expect additional names to be revealed as production moves forward.
