Song Hye Kyo recently shared her dedication to her role in the upcoming movie Dark Nuns, revealing she learned to smoke for the part. This revelation came during a press screening held at Megabox Coex in Gangnam, Seoul, attended by director Kwon Hyuk Jae and fellow actors Jeon Yeo Bin, Lee Jin Wook, and Moon Woo Jin.

Dark Nuns: A Story of Forbidden Rituals

Dark Nuns tells the story of people who perform a forbidden ritual in an attempt to save a boy believed to be possessed by a powerful evil spirit. This premise sets the stage for a dark and intense narrative.

Song Hye Kyo’s Role as Sister Unia

In Dark Nuns, Song Hye Kyo plays Sister Unia, a nun who is willing to go to extreme measures, even using forbidden methods, to protect a boy in danger. This character marks a departure from some of her previous roles, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Learning to Smoke for Authenticity

At the press conference, Song Hye Kyo expressed her nervousness and hopes for a positive reception of the film. She then shared a detail about her preparation for the role: learning to smoke.

“I’m so nervous. It’s a film that I worked really hard on, so I hope it gets a good response.”

She explained that this was her first time acting as a smoker and that she had initial concerns.

“This is the first time I’ve done smoking acting. I had a lot of concerns. Since I’m a non-smoker, I was unsure about how to do it, but when I thought about the character of Sister Unia, I realized it was an essential part of the role.”

To ensure authenticity, Song Hye Kyo began practicing smoking about six months before filming started.

“So, it’s not a good thing, but about six months before filming started, I began practicing smoking. The first scene starts with smoking, and it’s a big close-up, so I didn’t want to fake it. During the filming, I practiced a lot not just for acting but also for smoking.”

This dedication shows her commitment to portraying Sister Unia convincingly. The fact that the first scene involves a close-up of her smoking further emphasizes the importance of this detail to the character.
