Chloe Fineman recently shared new insights about her past encounter with Elon Musk during his controversial 2021 hosting of Saturday Night Live. While Musk previously made her cry by rejecting a sketch she wrote, Fineman now says they later “had a vibe” and went through “a journey” together.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Fineman was asked about Musk’s dismissive attitude toward her material. “We really got along,” she said. “I kinda thought we had a vibe. After he made me cry. It was sort of like — we went on quite a journey.”
Fineman Recalls Musk’s Harsh Criticism
Fineman previously revealed in a since-deleted TikTok that Musk dismissed a sketch she had stayed up all night writing. “You made I, Chloe Fineman, burst into tears, because I stayed up all night writing this sketch,” she said. “I was so excited, I came in, I asked if you had any questions, and you stared at me like you were firing me from Tesla and were like, ‘It’s not funny.’”
Musk later confirmed her account on social media, explaining that he was concerned about whether the sketch would get laughs.
On WWHL, Fineman further explained how their dynamic evolved. “He made me cry, I was like, ‘F— you!’ And then it got picked, the sketch got picked, we did the sketch, and we got along,” she said.
Fineman Reflects on Their “Vibe”
While considering why she felt a connection with Musk, Fineman noted that they both have ties to the Bay Area in California, though she acknowledged their differences. “We have nothing in common because he goes to Mars or whatever,” she joked, referring to Musk’s SpaceX ventures.
Despite their contrasting backgrounds, Fineman still felt she understood Musk on some level. “In my head, I was like, ‘I get this guy!’” she said.
Regret Over Public Comments
Fineman also admitted she regretted calling out Musk publicly. “I shouldn’t just make videos on my phone because the problem is I want to be able to talk s—, but then it gets picked up,” she said.
She then recounted Musk’s reaction to the sketch performance. “But then he was like, ‘It is true, in fact. It was funny.’ That’s my Elon. ‘It was funny.’ Because I think his brain didn’t know that when you read something — he pawed through [the script] and was like, ‘I didn’t laugh once. Not once.’ But then when you perform it, it’s funny. Sir.”
Musk Faces Ongoing Controversies
Musk remains a polarizing figure, most recently facing backlash for appearing to make a Nazi salute twice at Donald Trump’s inauguration. While he has not explicitly denied the gesture, he has instead responded by making jokes about Nazism and supporting the far-right German nationalist party AfD in multiple social media posts.
