The courtroom exploded. The city followed. And now, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is behind bars.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 dropped its finale episode “The Southern Cross” on May 6, 2026, on Disney+. The episode has since become the highest-rated MCU episode ever on IMDb, scoring an impressive 9.6 out of 10, beating out Loki‘s finale which held a 9.5.
The ending left viewers with one massive question: What happens now that everyone knows Matt Murdock is Daredevil?
Matt Murdock Makes the Ultimate Sacrifice in Court
For weeks, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) used his power as Mayor of New York City to crush anyone who stood against him. His Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) turned the city into a war zone. Martial law took over the streets.
But the final battle didn’t happen in an alley. It happened in a courtroom.
Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) returned to his legal career to defend Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), whom Fisk had captured and put on trial. During the hearing, Murdock called Fisk to the witness stand. After presenting video evidence that tied Fisk to illegal weapons smuggling on a ship called the Northern Star, Murdock needed one more witness to seal the deal.
That witness was Daredevil himself.
In a shocking moment, Murdock stood up and told the court: “I am Daredevil.”
The decision got Karen’s case dismissed. It exposed Fisk’s corruption. But it also meant Matt Murdock would now face punishment for every law he broke as a vigilante.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane explained the thinking behind this moment to Entertainment Weekly: “We really tried to make it a decision he had to make in order to take down Fisk. So it’s a bit of brilliant legal maneuvering, but it’s also the ultimate sacrifice.”

Fisk Loses Everything but Escapes Prison Time
While Matt went to jail, Wilson Fisk managed to avoid prison.
After the courtroom reveal, the New York Attorney General gave Fisk an ultimatum: give up his US citizenship and accept exile, or face the full weight of the law. Fisk initially refused and tried to fight his way through an angry mob outside the courthouse. The crowd nearly beat him to death before Matt intervened and convinced him to surrender.
Fisk took the deal. He left New York City, gave up his position as Mayor, and got sent to a private island — essentially marooned and alone. His wife Vanessa Fisk died earlier in the season, so he has nothing left.
Scardapane described Fisk’s new situation simply: “There is no Vanessa. There is no network of power. There is no mayor’s office. What does Fisk, at his core, climbing back into power, look like?”

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage Reunite in Finale Moments
The finale also brought back familiar faces from Marvel’s Netflix era.
Krysten Ritter returned as Jessica Jones, who had already appeared a few times throughout Season 2. But the big surprise came in the final minutes when Mike Colter showed up as Luke Cage — marking his first appearance as the character since 2019.
The scene shows Luke returning home to Jessica and their daughter Danielle. Luke had been working as a mercenary for a mysterious man named Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard). By the end of the episode, Luke tells Jessica he has cut ties with that operation.
Ritter told Entertainment Weekly she got emotional filming the reunion. “Jessica and Luke Cage have this amazing history and this amazing chemistry, and seeing him walk in the door, it was emotional,” she said.
Scardapane confirmed that Luke will play a larger role in Season 3. “The questions and the story that starts there play into season 3, absolutely,” he said.
Bullseye Joins Mr. Charles’ Team
Wilson Bethel‘s Bullseye (Dex) had a chaotic season. He killed bad guys instead of innocent people this time, walking a messy path toward some version of redemption.
In the finale, Bullseye takes a shot at Fisk’s bodyguard Buck, forcing Fisk to hide. Then he disappears — until the post-credits scene.
The final shot of the season shows Bullseye sitting on a plane next to Mr. Charles. The two talk, and it becomes clear that Bullseye is the newest recruit for Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) team of anti-heroes.
Scardapane called this pairing “a million seeds for stories going forward” and confirmed that Charles is building a network of vigilantes called “Charles’ Dark Whispers.”

Heather Glenn Becomes the New Muse
One of the darkest turns in the finale involves Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva).
Throughout Season 2, Heather struggled with trauma after being attacked by the serial killer Muse. In the finale, she finally breaks. Haunted by what happened to her, Heather puts on Muse’s mask and seems to like what she sees in the mirror.
Scardapane explained this choice: “What happens if she literally puts on that trauma, and that trauma solves a lot of her conflict? … Why would she become this thing? Why would she go to such a dark place? And I think you understand it.”
Season 3 will likely feature Heather as the new Muse, bringing more unhinged violence to Hell’s Kitchen.

BB Urich Gets Her Big Break
On a lighter note, BB Urich (Genneya Walton) finally lands the job she deserves.
After her viral video helped turn the public against Fisk, BB gets hired at The Bulletin — the same newspaper where her late father Ben Urich used to work. She also receives a box of his old belongings, including newspaper clippings that inspire her to keep fighting for the truth.
The White Tiger Rises
Angela Del Toro fully takes up the mantle of the White Tiger in the finale, following in the footsteps of her uncle Hector Ayala. She joins Daredevil in fighting AVTF officers and proves herself as a new hero for Hell’s Kitchen.
What the Finale Means for Season 3
The finale sets up multiple storylines for Season 3, which is already in production.
Matt Murdock sits in jail, setting up a storyline inspired by the famous comic arc “The Devil in Cell-Block D.” Scardapane confirmed this was intentional: “The idea of Matt, the lawyer, going into the justice system on the other end of it to pay for his crimes as a vigilante, that’s extremely rich territory.”
Meanwhile, Fisk lives in exile on an island — alone for the first time in years. Scardapane teased that Season 3 will explore how Fisk climbs back to power from nothing.
And with Luke Cage back, Jessica Jones confirmed for more episodes, and Bullseye joining Mr. Charles’ team, the street-level Marvel universe is expanding again.
The season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+ in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, and on JioHotstar in India.
