The Vought Cinematic Universe just got a little smaller. Amazon Prime Video decided not to move forward with Gen V for a third season. The college-set spinoff of The Boys officially ended after its second season finished airing in October 2025. Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg confirmed the news, leaving many fans wondering why a show that started so strong is already finished.

Why Amazon Decided to End Gen V After Season 2

The decision to cancel Gen V did not come from one single reason. Multiple factors played a role in Amazon’s choice to close the doors at Godolkin University.

The show began with huge numbers. When Season 2 released its first three episodes in September 2025, it pulled in 424 million minutes viewed and reached number eight on the Nielsen top 10 streaming chart. Two-thirds of those viewers were between ages 18 and 49. But after that strong start, the show returned to the top 10 only one more time. The momentum simply did not hold.

Eric Kripke previously told Entertainment Weekly that the show’s future depended on ratings. “If the ratings are good enough, they’ll give us a season 3. If they’re not good enough, they won’t. That’s just the business,” he said. The numbers after the first week suggested that enough people did not continue watching.

Another major issue was the tragic loss of cast member Chance Perdomo. The actor, who played Andre Anderson, died in a motorcycle accident in March 2024 while driving to the set. His death caused a significant delay in Season 2 production. The show had to rewrite parts of the season and address his character’s absence.

Some fans also pointed out that the show always felt like a side story to The Boys rather than something that could stand alone.

“It always just felt like a side story to The Boys as opposed to its own thing anyway,” one Reddit user wrote after the cancellation news broke.

The Boys Season 5 Connection and Character Returns

Even though Gen V will not continue as its own show, the characters are not gone forever. The Season 2 finale set up a clear path forward. The students were recruited by Annie January (Starlight) to join the resistance against Homelander.

Several Gen V cast members including Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Keeya King will appear in The Boys Season 5. This season is currently airing now and will end on May 20, 2026.

Kripke and Goldberg made it clear that this is not a goodbye.

“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”

What Happens Next in the Vought Cinematic Universe

The end of Gen V does not mean the end of The Boys universe. Prime Video already has other projects in the works.

Vought Rising is a prequel series that will follow Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash). This show has already finished production and is scheduled to release in 2027. The Boys: Mexico is also still in development, though details remain limited.

The main show, The Boys, will finish with Season 5 on May 20, 2026. The franchise will continue through these new projects rather than the college setting.

Fan Reactions to the Gen V Cancellation

Social media lit up with mixed reactions after the news broke. Some fans felt disappointed while others understood the reasoning.

One Reddit user shared, “It’s a shame because I enjoyed the showโ€ฆ but honestly with how closely the story is tied to The Boys (and with The Boys ending anyway) it makes sense to just end this too.”

Another viewer wrote, “Not surprising but also feels like wasted potential after how good S1 was and how much it set up the main show’s endgame.”

On Rotten Tomatoes, Gen V Season 2 received an audience score of 71% , which was actually higher than The Boys Season 4 at 54% . Quality was not the issue. The show simply could not keep its audience week after week.
