The new Netflix Korean drama If Wishes Could Kill dropped on April 24, 2026, and viewers can’t stop talking about the mysterious Girigo app. The eight-episode horror series follows high school students who get trapped by a cursed wish-granting application. Now, the show’s director is sharing which characters he wants to see more of if the series returns.
Park Yoon-seo, who directed the series, recently sat for an interview where he talked about a possible second season. He made it clear that two specific characters have stories he really wants to tell.
Director Reveals Which Characters Need More Screen Time
In an interview on April 28, 2026, Park Yoon-seo spoke openly about what he would explore in If Wishes Could Kill Season 2. The director pointed to Haetsal, played by Jeon So Nee, and Bang Ul, played by Roh Jae Won, as his top choices for deeper storytelling.
“In Season 1, the thing I struggled most with โ whether to include it or not โ was the story of Haetsal and Bang Ul meeting. It seems the writer has plenty of material for that. I think it’ll be interesting to incorporate those elements into Season 2.”
Haetsal serves as a shaman who understands the supernatural world better than anyone else. She realizes early on that something dangerous is coming and warns her brother Kang Ha Jun. Bang Ul stays by her side the whole time, even when things get scary. He gets hurt while trying to save Yoo Se Ah, but he never backs down.

Why These Two Characters Matter So Much
Throughout the first season, Haetsal and Bang Ul become the only people who truly understand how the Girigo app works. They know how to connect with the spiritual side of the curse. Without them, the group of friends would have no chance of stopping the app’s deadly power.
Bang Ul gets a new ability at the end of Season 1. His injured left eye can now see spirits just like Haetsal. He tells others that he might be able to find a way to help Haetsal leave the temple and live a normal life again. This opens up many possibilities for where the story could go next.
The director also shared why he chose Roh Jae Won to play Bang Ul.
“I kept wondering which actor could bring out the fun elements in a flavorful way without straying from the overall framework of the genre, while also adding freshness. When Roh Jae Won’s name came up, I thought, ‘We have to get him no matter what.’ Roh Jae Won also said the project seemed like a lot of fun and shared ideas on set.”
Jeon So Nee also received praise from Park Yoon-seo. He admitted feeling bad about how hard her role was.
“I felt very sorry toward Jeon So Nee because she couldn’t move around much. It must have been difficult to act while sitting the entire time. I think she had no choice but to take on a very challenging performance. I believe she carried a very significant part of the drama.”

What Netflix Has Said About Season 2 So Far
As of April 29, 2026, Netflix has not officially announced If Wishes Could Kill Season 2. The platform usually waits about 28 days to look at viewing numbers before making renewal choices. The show has already made it onto the Netflix Korea top 10 within its first week, which is a good sign.
The series is listed as a limited series right now. Many Korean dramas stop after one season, even when they do well. But some shows like Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed have come back for second seasons because of strong audience support.
Kang Mi-na, who plays Lim Na Ri in the show, spoke about a possible Season 2 in a separate interview on April 28, 2026.
“If Wishes Could Kill Season 2? Of course I would do it if it happens. I want to show a powerful side of Nari. I haven’t talked with the director about the details of Season 2, but I understand the series was planned with multiple seasons in mind from the start. Nari is mentally trapped in the curse, and we don’t know where her body is. Maybe that’s what Season 2 will explore.”

What Season 2 Could Look Like For Haetsal And Bang Ul
If the show gets renewed, viewers would likely see how Haetsal and Bang Ul first met. The director admitted he struggled with whether to include that story in Season 1. Now he thinks there is enough material to make it a main part of the next season.
The Season 1 ending also left other clues. A middle school student receives a message that says “GIRIGO 2.0 Updated Wishes Available.” This suggests the curse has changed into something newer and possibly more dangerous.
Fans of the show have many questions that a second season could answer. Will Bang Ul use his new ability to free Haetsal from the temple? How did these two characters find each other in the first place? What other secrets about the spirit world might they uncover?
The show’s success on Netflix will likely decide the show’s future. For now, all eight episodes of Season 1 are available to stream on Netflix in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions.
