Halle Berry has shared her official response to the new Storm casting in Marvel’s X-Men reboot. The Oscar-winning actress, who played Ororo Munroe across four X-Men films starting in 2000, spoke with People at the Create & Cultivate Festival in Los Angeles about Maya Boyd stepping into the role. Berry’s reaction was supportive, and she also compared the situation to her own experience with another famous comic book character.
Halle Berry’s Message for Maya Boyd
The former Storm actress did not hold back her support for Boyd. Berry told People that she believes the young actress will do well in the role.
“I believe she’s going to kill it. You know what I mean? Yeah, there’s people playing Storm. No, my Storm was my Storm and I wish her so well. I very much look forward to seeing what her version will be. I’m sure she’s going to murder it.”
Berry’s comment shows she sees Boyd’s casting as a new chapter for the character rather than a replacement of her own work. She also made it clear that she holds no hard feelings about another actress taking on the part she made famous in the early 2000s.
The Catwoman Comparison
Berry brought up her own experience playing Catwoman in the 2004 film of the same name. She used that role to explain why she believes different actors should be allowed to bring their own versions of famous characters to life.
“And what I love is the same thing happened with Catwoman. Everybody has their version of who that character is and how they internalize it.”
The Catwoman movie was not a critical or commercial success. Berry famously accepted a Razzie Award for her performance. Still, she uses that experience to support the idea that comic book characters can be interpreted in many ways. Her point is that no single actor owns a role forever, and each new version brings something different.
Who Is Maya Boyd
Maya Boyd is a 23-year-old actress with a background in musical theater. She has appeared in West End productions including & Juliet and Merrily We Roll Along. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced her as the new Storm during the Disney D23 showcase in August 2026.
Boyd shared her excitement on Instagram after the announcement with the caption “It’s an honor to be your Storm.” The post received many welcoming comments from fans and fellow actors.
The New X-Men Cast and Release Date
The MCU’s X-Men reboot is directed by Jake Schreier. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028. The cast includes:

This will be the first time the X-Men are fully integrated into the MCU timeline. The Fox-era X-Men films, which began with X-Men in 2000, existed in a separate continuity.
Halle Berry’s History as Storm
Berry first played Storm in 2000’s X-Men. She returned for X2: X-Men United in 2003, X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, and X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. Her version of the character became one of the most recognizable parts of the original film series.
Alexandra Shipp later played a younger version of Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 and Dark Phoenix in 2019. Berry’s Storm remains the version most closely associated with the original Fox trilogy.
Berry’s Status in the MCU
Halle Berry has stated that she will not appear as Storm in Avengers: Doomsday. Several of her X-Men co-stars are returning for that film, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
Berry has said she is open to returning as Storm in a future project, but nothing has been confirmed. For now, her focus is on supporting Boyd and watching a new generation of X-Men take shape.
