Actress Moon Chae Won sparked heated discussions after her appearance on SNL Korea Season 7, aired on May 10, 2025. The episode featured a skit that many viewers found too suggestive, leading to widespread criticism. The segment, titled “Kangaroo Dating,” included physical interactions between Moon and comedian Kim Won Hun that some labeled as “lewd.” Netizens expressed discomfort, questioning the show’s humor. Moon has since responded, defending her performance while acknowledging differing tastes in comedy.

The controversial skit showed Moon and Kim as childhood friends in a comedic setting. In one scene, Moon’s character asked Kim to lie down, caressed his legs, and rubbed her foot on his lower body. This moment, meant to be humorous, was described by some as inappropriate, with terms like “footjob” circulating online. Viewers criticized SNL Korea for its bold, innuendo-heavy style. Many felt the humor was outdated for today’s audience.

Public reactions were swift and divided, shared across forums and social media. Some netizens were shocked, questioning why Moon, known for elegant roles, took part in the skit. Others compared it to past SNL Korea controversies, like a suggestive parody of “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” in 2024.

“Wow, I’m seriously so shocked. Why is Moon Chae-won doing something like this??? Is this a Japanese variety show?”
“Incel writers. Are they crazy? Why are they like that? Is this meant to be funny?”
“The Kim Sa Rang episode was vulgar too, but this is even worse.”

Moon addressed the backlash on her DC Inside fan page and Instagram on May 11, 2025. She admitted feeling nervous about her first comedy stage but called it a “special time.” Moon emphasized the hard work of the SNL Korea team, including writers and cast like Shin Dong Yup. She noted that comedy is challenging due to varied senses of humor and hoped fans wouldn’t feel too upset.

Hello everyone, it’s good to see you all here. Were you surprised yesterday? It seems like some of you were caught off guard seeing me on a variety show in a character so different from what I’ve shown in my previous works.

Through this experience with the SNL team, I realized just how much effort and care so many people put into creating a single episode of the show. I’m truly thankful to those who came to the live taping as well. Even though it was brief, performing on stage was a unique experience for me. It was a special time where I got to take on characters and segments I might have never tried otherwise.

Since each of us has a different sense of humor and taste, I believe comedy is a particularly challenging genre. That’s why I also had a chance to learn a lot from watching the incredible talents of the cast and crew.

I hope no one feels too upset about it… Because time passes, and new days always come.

More than anything, I just hope all of you are feeling at ease and staying healthy. I’m always grateful to those who support me.

Since it was my first time on a stage like this, I was really nervous, but I had a special time with the entire SNL production team, the writers, senior Shin Dong Yup, and the amazing cast 🌟👩🏻‍🦰🧑🏻‍🦱👨🏻‍🦰👧🏻. So many people worked hard and poured their passion into the Saturday 8PM broadcast, and I did my best too, though I think some of my awkward moments showed. A big thank you as well to the audience members who came to the live show.

Fans had mixed responses to Moon’s statement. Some praised her for stepping out of her comfort zone, appreciating her versatility. Others expressed disappointment, urging her to return to dramas.

“Great job 😊 I was nervous too watching your first experience 🥹 I had half given up on SNL, but I’m so glad I got to watch it safely and see a new side of you 🙌🙌🫶🏻🫶🏻❤️”
“I really enjoyed your comedy show, unnie. Watching your SNL Korea appearance made me miss your dramas and movies. Always supporting you ❤️❤️❤️”
“When will we get to see you act in a K-Drama again? I miss watching you act.”

Moon, aged 38, is known for dramas like The Princess’ Man, Flower of Evil, and Payback. Her SNL Korea appearance marked a shift from her usual graceful image. She signed with Blitzway Studio in March 2025 after leaving IOK Company. The episode was her first major project under the new agency.

SNL Korea has faced similar criticism before. Past skits, like one mocking The Glory in 2023, were slammed for insensitivity. The show’s 19+ rating was also questioned, as clips often spread online without restrictions. Some viewers argued that actresses, including Moon, are unfairly pushed into provocative segments.

Moon’s performance wasn’t all controversy. She impressed with ad-libs and comedic roles, like a rebellious student. Her playful response to a boyfriend question during the opening also drew laughs. When asked if she had a boyfriend, she replied, “Even if I did, could I really say so?” This sparked buzz about her personal life.

The backlash has raised questions about SNL Korea’s creative direction. Viewers called for better editorial oversight to balance edgy humor with respect. Moon’s fans, however, remain supportive, eager for her next project. Her bold attempt at comedy shows her willingness to take risks.

SNL Korea Season 7, aired on Coupang Play, continues to lead non-drama rankings. The show’s mix of humor and controversy keeps it in the spotlight. Moon’s episode, despite the criticism, highlighted her range as an actress. Her ability to handle both drama and comedy remains a key strength.
