Amazon MGM Studios has decided not to enter the hit series Fallout in the upcoming Golden Globes race, despite the show’s second season being eligible. The strategic move pushes the awards campaign for the post-apocalyptic drama to the 2026 Emmy Awards, followed by the 2027 Critics Choice and guild awards cycles. This decision is directly tied to the show’s unique release schedule, which overlaps with the winter awards season.

Why the Show is Skipping the Golden Globes

Fallout Season 2 is set to premiere on December 17, 2025, on Prime Video, with new episodes releasing weekly until the season finale on February 4, 2026. This rollout means that only the first three episodes will be available to viewers by the time awards shows like the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards have their submission deadlines.

With most of the season’s eight episodes still unfinished and significant concerns about potential leaks of unreleased content, the studio has chosen to wait until the entire season is complete and available to the public before submitting it for awards consideration. This approach removes the show from contention for the Golden Globes altogether for its second season.

The New Awards Strategy for Season 2

The revised plan means that Fallout will now debut its awards campaign with the 2026 Emmys. Following that, the show will be considered for the 2027 Critics Choice Awards and various guild awards in the fall of 2026. This is a shift from the first season’s successful awards run, which resulted in 17 Emmy nominations and recognition from nine different guilds.

The decision shows a high level of confidence in the new season’s content, with the studio preferring to present the complete story to awards voters rather than an incomplete snapshot. The move ensures that standout performances, such as Walton Goggins as The Ghoul, will be evaluated based on the full arc of the season.

What’s Next for the Wasteland

While the awards strategy changes, fans have plenty to look forward to. The new season continues the story immediately after the first season’s finale, following Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul as they journey through the Mojave Wasteland to the city of New Vegas. The season will introduce iconic locations from the Fallout: New Vegas game, including the New Vegas Strip and the Lucky 38 casino.

Justin Theroux joins the cast as the enigmatic New Vegas ruler, Robert House. The actor described his scenes with Walton Goggins as “a couple of really incredible scenes that are just these big, heavyweight bouts of intellect,” adding, “It was like doing Waiting For Godot in the middle of the whole thing.”

Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy, teased the evolving dynamic between her character and The Ghoul, saying their relationship is sometimes like a “buddy road trip” and at other times they are “so much at arms.” She posed the question, “Is the Ghoul going to become good? Is Lucy going to become bad? Or are they going to be somewhere in the middle?”

The series has already been renewed for a third season, confirming Amazon’s strong commitment to the franchise. Season 1 attracted over 100 million viewers worldwide, making it one of Prime Video’s most-watched titles ever. With the new season’s focus on New Vegas and the introduction of new characters, including a role played by Macaulay Culkin, the show is poised to maintain its popularity when it returns in December.
