The eighth episode of Fire Country Season 4 delivered major movement in the ongoing mystery of the Zabel Ridge fire. Bode Leone’s attempt to help a troubled teenager uncovered a critical new suspect. Meanwhile, the reopening of the Three Rock inmate program hit major snags, and Bode reached a significant career milestone.

Bodeโ€™s Mentorship of Tyler Uncovers a Major Clue

Bode is officially taking his role as a mentor to teenage Tyler seriously. Viewers learned that Bodeโ€™s connection to the family is deeper than expected: Tylerโ€™s mother is Chloe Mackenzie, played by Alona Tal, who was Bodeโ€™s math tutor in high school. Bode and Chloe reconnected during a hard-hitting drunk-driving awareness demonstration at the local high school, where Tyler played a student who “died” in a staged accident.

The emotional simulation affected Chloe deeply, despite knowing it was fake. Sharon Leone also found herself overwhelmed, stepping away to privately grieve for her late husband, Vince. At a mock funeral held as part of the program, Tyler lost his temper, yelling about the loss of “real houses and real people” before storming out.

The situation escalated when Bode drove Chloe home. They arrived to find Chloe’s boyfriend, Landon, yelling at Tyler and getting in the teenager’s face. Bode intervened, pulling Landon off Tyler. Outside, a shaken Tyler told Bode that Landon hurts everyone and that “everythingโ€™s his fault”. When Bode pressed him, a pivotal question emerged: did Landon start the Zabel Ridge fire? Tyler then claimed to forget what he said, but Bode immediately called his mother, Sharon, to report the serious accusation. This places Landon as a prime new suspect in the arson that killed Vince Leone.

Eveโ€™s Rocky Start with the New Three Rock Crew

After fighting for its return, Eve Edwards finally saw the Three Rock inmate firefighting program reopen. However, her victory was short-lived. Instead of her experienced former crew, she was assigned a busload of juvenile inmatesโ€”young, inexperienced, and prone to fighting.

Eveโ€™s struggle was compounded by pressure from Chief Manny Perez, who is stressed about the coming fire season. Against Eve’s judgment, Manny ordered her to take the green recruits to an active forest fire to cut a firebreak. The results were disastrous. The boys failed to follow safety protocols, argued, and even accidentally cut a hose, slowing down the entire operation. Frustrated, Eve snapped, yelling, “These are not my guys”. The statement damaged her already-fragile relationship with the new crew. Manny later admitted they had failed to communicate well, leaving Eve with the immense task of building trust and a functional team from scratch.

Bodeโ€™s Promotion and a Special Moment with Luke

Amid the personal drama, Bode reached a crucial professional goal. His uncle, Luke Leone, returned as the new Assistant Unit Chief. Luke has a new plan for Bode, wanting him to join Cal Fire’s specialized REMS (Rapid Extraction Module Support) team.

Luke was also determined to help Bode finish the last item on his “probie” checklist to become a full firefighter. During a dangerous rescue at a burning lakeside shedโ€”a mission involving a cardiac arrest patient and poison ivy smokeโ€”Luke creatively counted their actions to fulfill the requirement. Back at the station, the moment turned emotional as Luke prepared to sign Bode’s completed task book.

“Look, Bode, I wasnโ€™t always there for you when I should have beenโ€ฆ I know that I cannot fill the hole that my brother left in this family, but I do know it was your dadโ€™s dream to sign your completed task book,” Luke said.

With Luke’s signature, Bode officially graduated from probationary firefighter to Firefighter Leone.

Jakeโ€™s Family Efforts and Episode Fallout

In a quieter storyline, Jake continued to seek a connection with his half-brother, Malcolm. After being blocked by Malcolm, Jake tried to reach out through his half-sister, who was also initially hostile. Choosing a less forceful approach, Jake left a letter for them, promising to give them space and wait until they are ready to talk.

The episode set the stage for a dramatic winter finale. The key questions heading into the next episode are:

  • Will Landon be confirmed as the Zabel Ridge arsonist?
  • Can Eve unite her new, troubled Three Rock crew?
  • How will Sharon and Bode proceed with the explosive new arson accusation?

Fire Country airs Fridays at 9 PM ET on CBS. New episodes are available for streaming the next day on Paramount+.
