The final season of The Boys kicked off with a brutal message: nobody is safe. The premiere episode, which dropped on Prime Video on April 8, 2026, ended with Homelander brutally murdering A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). The speedster died a hero, swerving to avoid an innocent woman just before his former boss snapped his neck. Now that the dust has settled on that shocking moment, fans are looking at the remaining original cast members and wondering who will be next.
A-Trains Death Sets a Dangerous Pattern for the Final Season
Showrunner Eric Kripke explained that the decision to kill A-Train in the very first episode was intentional. The writers pushed him to prove that “nobody is safe” right from the start.
“You keep saying nobody’s safe: Put your money where your mouth is. We have to drop someone really important in the first episode, so people will go the rest of the season truly feeling like nobody is safe.” – Eric Kripke, The Boys showrunner
A-Train’s death was a full circle moment for the character who started the entire series by accidentally killing Hughie’s girlfriend Robin. His final act showed how much he had grown. He chose to save a stranger even though it cost him his life.
Jessie T. Usher told Hindustan Times that he never expected his character to survive this long. He called A-Train’s change from villain to hero a “fulfilling” journey to portray.
Why Mother’s Milk Could Be the Next Target
With A-Train gone, attention is turning to Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso). Several signs in the first two episodes suggest that MM might be next on Homelander’s list.
MM just achieved something huge. He killed Love Sausage in hand to hand combat in episode 1 without taking any Temp V. No normal human has ever taken down a Supe that way on this show. But completing a personal vendetta that has been building for seasons often signals that a character’s story is wrapping up. MM has had issues with Love Sausage since season 2, and now that fight is finished.
The other worrying sign is how much softer MM has become. He let Countess Crow live in episode 2. He is showing hope again instead of just being driven by revenge. These are exactly the kinds of qualities you give a character right before something bad happens to them.
MM Still Has Unfinished Business Before Any Potential Exit
If The Boys writers are planning to kill off MM, there are a few things that need to happen first. His arc with Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) remains unresolved. Soldier Boy killed MM’s family members, and with Ackles back for this final season, MM deserves a proper face off with him. He also needs to make peace with his ex-wife and actually reconnect with his daughter Janine.
MM has always been the heart of The Boys. His journey from a grieving son to a conflicted leader shows everything the show does right. His grandfather was killed when Soldier Boy threw a Mercedes through their house. His father spent sixteen years writing lawsuits against Vought and literally worked himself to death trying to get justice.
In season 4, MM was practically running the show. He stepped up as the leader, trying to keep everyone focused while Butcher went off on his own path. He recruited A-Train as a spy and even infiltrated Homelander’s meetings. But the weight of it all caught up with him. He had a full panic attack after shooting Sage and started questioning whether he should just leave to be with his family instead of dying for this cause.
Other Characters Facing Danger in Season 5
A-Train is not expected to be the only major loss. Eric Kripke has removed all “plot armor” for the final season. Several other original characters are facing serious risk.
Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) seems destined for a dark ending. His terminal diagnosis and the “Kessler” entity pushing him toward killing all Supes makes his death feel almost unavoidable. In the comics, Butcher becomes the final villain and has to be stopped by his own team.
Frenchie (Tomer Capone) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) might not make it to the end either. Their fates are tied together in the comics with a tragic ending. The show has already put them in a romantic relationship, which could set up an even more emotional goodbye.
The Deep (Chace Crawford) has been the show’s punching bag for years. His continued downward spiral into becoming a fascist enforcer makes him a likely candidate for a brutal exit.
