A tragic incident has occurred on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s upcoming film Love & War. A 42-year-old carpenter, Chandradhari Singh Yadav, lost his life after suffering an electric shock at Royal Pump Studio in Mumbai’s Film City in the early hours of June 17. The news has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood industry and raised serious questions about on-set safety and working conditions.
Following the incident, Bhansali Productions offered ₹40 lakh as compensation to Yadav’s family. However, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has intervened. The film body has urged the production house to increase the compensation to ₹50 lakh. The federation argues that a larger sum is essential for the long-term welfare of the family.
Worker Dies on Love & War Set After Electrocution
The accident occurred around 3 am on June 17. Initial reports suggest that a short circuit caused the electrocution. The exact cause of death is still under investigation and will be confirmed by the post-mortem report. The incident happened while actor Alia Bhatt was reportedly shooting on the set that day.
Chandradhari Singh Yadav was a carpenter working on the film’s grand sets. He is survived by his wife and two young daughters. His sudden death has left his family in deep grief and facing an uncertain financial future.
Union Raises Safety Concerns After Set Accident
Following the tragedy, FWICE and the Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU) approached the producers seeking financial assistance and support for the family. While the production house offered ₹40 lakh, union officials say more help is needed to secure the future of his dependents.
Speaking about the issue, FWICE president B.N. Tiwari highlighted the challenges faced by workers on film sets and the need for better compensation. He stated the federation’s demands regarding the safety of workers in the industry.
“Apart from monetary compensation, we have requested the producer to take responsibility for the children’s education. Workers are often made to work far beyond the prescribed eight to ten hours, and there is a limit to how much a person can physically stretch themselves at work. Once the post-mortem report comes, we will decide our next course of action.”
He also mentioned the impact of losing a skilled technician and the specific financial needs of the family in this difficult time. “Firstly, we want the compensation to be Rs 50 lakh given his children are very young, and the family will need aide for their education,” Tiwari added.

Long Working Hours Under Scrutiny
FWICE has also raised concerns about the working conditions that may have contributed to the accident. General Secretary Ashok Dubey revealed that Yadav had been working under an extremely demanding schedule. He stated that the crew member had been on duty for three consecutive days.
“Chandradhari had been working continuously on the set for the past three days and had been on duty from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. on the day of the incident,” Dubey said. The federation argues that such gruelling schedules lead to fatigue and increase the risk of workplace accidents. It is calling for stricter safety protocols and regulated work hours for all technicians.
In addition to financial aid, FWICE has requested that Bhansali’s production house offer employment to Yadav’s wife. The federation believes a job would provide the grieving family with a stable, reliable source of income moving forward.
Love & War is one of Bollywood’s most awaited films. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the period drama stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles. It marks Bhansali’s collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor since Saawariya and brings together the three stars for the first time. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on January 21, 2027.
The film’s production house has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
