The Marvel star is known for playing Bruce Banner, but right now he is fighting a real-life battle against one of the biggest media mergers in Hollywood history. Mark Ruffalo recently revealed that his strong opposition to the Paramount-Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery might have gotten him blacklisted by the studio.
During a candid chat on the I’ve Had It podcast, Ruffalo admitted that he thinks he is already on an internal blacklist at Paramount. He claims this is payback for leading a public charge against the massive $110 billion deal.
The actor didn’t hold back, explaining that staying quiet would not change his fate anyway. He decided to speak up because he believes the merger will hurt the entertainment industry.
“I’m doing this because I know we have to. And I know no matter what, if I don’t speak out, it’s the same outcome. I’m already on a list. I’m already not a friend of these people. And so you’re either going to fight, or you’re going to lie down.” – Mark Ruffalo
Why Ruffalo Thinks He Is Being Punished
Ruffalo is not just complaining about rumors. He is actively leading a campaign with his attorney, Norm Eisen, to stop the merger using antitrust laws. The actor released an open letter in April that has since gathered over 5,000 signatures from people in the industry who oppose the deal.
He followed that up with an op-ed in The New York Times in May, urging lawmakers and the public to fight against what he calls a monopoly. Ruffalo says that simply speaking up has made him a target.
On the podcast, he quoted a prominent Hollywood agent who described the executives behind the merger as “vindictive motherf***ers.” He directly named the *Ellison family* (who run Skydance) as the source of this fear.
Ruffalo explained that many big names in Hollywood were too scared to sign his letter. They are worried that if they speak out against the merger, they will lose their jobs or be blacklisted from future projects.
“It’s interesting because a lot of people, off the bat, were afraid to sign it. They’re afraid because, to quote one prominent agent… these are some vindictive motherf***ers, the Ellisons.” – *Mark Ruffalo*
A Culture Of Fear In Hollywood
The Avengers star says the problem is bigger than just him. He believes the proposed merger is already creating a “deep, ugly and pervasive fear of speaking out” in Hollywood.
Ruffalo pointed out recent examples where companies allegedly took action against critics. He mentioned a report where Paramount reportedly pulled ads from a publication called The Ankler because an editor was holding “Block the Merger” buttons. He also noted that CNN (which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery) reportedly passed on having him as a guest because the merger was a sensitive topic for the company.
Ruffalo says this silence is dangerous. He argues that when Fox and Disney merged, the industry lost many jobs, shows, and films that were in production. He is worried the same thing—or something worse—will happen with this deal.

The Massive Merger In Question
To understand why Ruffalo is so upset, you have to look at the size of this deal. In February, after Netflix dropped out of the bidding war, Paramount finalized its plan to buy Warner Bros. Discovery.
The deal values Warner Bros. Discovery at $110 billion. It combines massive brands like DC Comics, HBO, CNN, and Harry Potter under one roof. Shareholders approved the deal in April, and it is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, unless regulators block it first.
Ruffalo and his team are currently urging state officials and the Department of Justice to step in and enforce antitrust laws to stop the takeover. They believe that giving one company this much power will kill competition and hurt creativity.
Despite his fears about being blacklisted, Ruffalo refuses to back down. He says that even though he is scared, fighting is the only option.
“The most revealing thing about that letter wasn’t the people who signed. It was the people who didn’t. Not because they disagreed — because they were afraid.” – Mark Ruffalo
