Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender has expanded its cast for Season 2 with exciting new additions. The streaming giant confirmed several actors joining the fantasy series, including Dichen Lachman, Madison Hu, and Terry Chen. Production for Season 2 has wrapped, and filming for Season 3 is now underway.

The new cast members will play key roles in the next chapter of Aang’s journey. Fans can expect more bending battles, deeper character arcs, and fresh faces from the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation. The show continues to prioritize diverse representation, staying true to its Asian and Indigenous roots.

Dichen Lachman (Severance) takes on the role of Yangchen, a past Avatar known for her wisdom. Madison Hu (The Brothers Sun) joins as Fei, while Terry Chen (Jessica Jones) portrays Jeong Jeong, a firebending master. Other newcomers include Dolly de Leon as the twin advisors Lo and Li and Lily Gao as Ursa, Zuko and Azula’s mother.

“We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2,” executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani said.

Returning cast members include Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), and Dallas Liu (Zuko). Miya Cech debuts as the fan-favorite Toph, a blind earthbending prodigy. The show’s first season was a hit, topping Netflix’s charts with over 21 million views in its debut week.

Season 2 will explore more of the Earth Kingdom, including the iconic city of Ba Sing Se. The producers teased major storylines from the original animated series, along with new twists.

“There’s no war in Ba Sing Se,” the EPs said, referencing a famous line from the cartoon. “Fans can expect more brilliant plans from Sokka, even more masterful bending from Katara, and Aang to learn a new bending form.”

For Season 3, Jon Jon Briones (Ratched) and Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon) have been cast as Piandao and Hama. The final season will likely follow the animated series’ climax, leading to an epic showdown with Fire Lord Ozai.

The live-action adaptation has faced comparisons to the original, but the cast and crew aim to honor the source material while adding fresh elements.

“My version of Toph is going to be a little older and slightly more feminine,” said Miya Cech. “I wanted to bring a very humanizing space for her because she was a cartoon originally.”

Fans won’t have to wait long for more updates. Netflix plans to release Season 2 in 2026, with Season 3 expected in 2027. The series remains a major priority for the streamer, given its strong fanbase and critical success.
