Super Junior‘s Leeteuk recently addressed concerns from fans about the reuse of costumes at SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary concert ‘SMTOWN LIVE 2025 [THE CULTURE, THE FUTURE] in SEOUL,’ which took place on January 11th and 12th KST at Gocheok Sky Dome, Seoul.
Leeteuk’s Explanation on Costume Reuse
During a live broadcast on January 12th, Leeteuk explained the situation regarding the costumes. He said that some people were commenting on the outfits, saying they looked like they were reused from previous years. Leeteuk clarified that the stylists did their best given the budget available for production. He noted that creating brand new costumes is expensive, and sometimes the artists themselves contribute to these costs. Therefore, some previously worn outfits were reused. He asked fans not to be too critical about this.
He went into more detail about the costs associated with making costumes:
Costume production isn’t cheap. It costs hundreds of thousands of won to make tailored outfits. The stylists measure our sizes, choose materials, and design the costumes from scratch. It’s a lot of work.
Leeteuk’s Concern for the Stylists
Leeteuk expressed his concern for the stylists involved. He explained that he was speaking up to prevent misunderstandings. He said that while the stylists work very hard, fans might question their efforts, thinking they are not doing their job properly just because they reused costumes. He emphasized that the stylists cannot publicly explain these circumstances themselves, which is why he felt the need to intervene. He did not want them to be unfairly blamed.
Leeteuk also mentioned that the decision to reuse costumes is not taken lightly.
We also think carefully about reusing costumes. If we repeatedly wear the same outfits, it wouldn’t feel right. But we make sure to rotate or repurpose them thoughtfully. Fans should know there’s a reason behind these decisions. Costumes can be reused for events or other performances to avoid waste.
Leeteuk’s honest explanation highlights the practical and financial factors behind producing a concert, and he asked for understanding for the stylists and the entire production team.
