The latest episode of NCIS: Sydney brought back a painful chapter from Michelle Mackey‘s past. Season 3 Episode 15, titled “The Collective,” aired on April 14, 2026, on CBS. The episode followed a former Marine’s strange death that led the team to a hidden criminal network operating inside the military.
The case started with Dan Kielman, a former Marine who now worked as a banker. He stole a car, got chased by police, and crashed. But the crash did not kill him. The autopsy showed he died from a heart attack caused by a large amount of methamphetamine in his body. The drugs were hidden inside the car. When the car caught fire, the drugs turned into vapor, and Kielman breathed it all in.
Mackey’s Afghanistan Rescue Mission Comes Back to Haunt Her
The episode moved between the present day and the year 2017. Back then, Mackey was a pilot serving in Afghanistan. She got orders to leave a group of Americans behind. The command told her to let them get captured, or worse things would happen. She refused. She went in and rescued three Marines.
During the flight back, she asked the men how they ended up behind enemy lines. They did not give her clear answers. Before she could question them more, a missile hit the aircraft. The crash killed two of her crew members. Mackey survived.
Instead of getting praise, she faced a court-martial for disobeying orders. Her career ended. And the three men she saved all died shortly after returning to the United States. One died by suicide. The others died in accidents, or at least that is what the reports said.
DeShawn Jackson Finds the Missing Link
Back in 2017, DeShawn Jackson worked in JAG. He helped build the case against Mackey. But unlike others, he looked deeper into the men she saved. He found that every single one of them had died. Mackey was the only one still alive.
In the present day, the team looked into Kielman‘s background. They learned the drugs traced back to Afghanistan. The region moved from heroin production to pills after the U.S. withdrawal. The supply chain matched.
Kielman worked at a bank that used to have ties to intelligence operations. Officially, those ties were gone. But unofficially, they remained. The bank’s leadership included a man named Lee Meyers.
Meyers Played a Role in Covering Up the Truth
Lee Meyers was present during Mackey‘s court-martial years ago. He pushed for a quick resolution. He did not want Mackey to speak openly in court. She refused to stay quiet. But the case suddenly disappeared under “national security” rules, and everyone signed NDAs.
In Episode 15, DeShawn finally told Mackey the truth he kept hidden for years. Meyers forced everyone to stay quiet. The three Marines Mackey saved were all killed. They were part of a group called The Collective.
“DeShawn finally tells Mackey something he hadn’t told her all of these years ago. Meyers forced them to stay quiet. That includes the fact that Mackey was the only survivor from that rescue group. She had no idea until now.”
The Collective is made up of people inside the U.S. military. Their goal is to move drugs across the world and control the trade. The Marines Mackey saved were part of this group and tried to leave. That is why they died.
Mackey Sets a Trap to Catch Meyers
Once Mackey understood the full picture, she set up a meeting with Meyers. He dropped his act and admitted everything. He talked about killings in Afghanistan villages, eliminating rivals, and taking out his own people when needed. He also confirmed the Marines were killed because they tried to leave The Collective.
Meyers then threatened Mackey‘s son, Trey. He told her they knew Trey was coming to Sydney and could get to him. But Mackey was already ahead. She staged a phone call about Trey being at her apartment. She also mentioned releasing video evidence of The Collective‘s crimes.
Meyers took the bait. He showed up with backup. But DeShawn and JD were already in position. DeShawn pretended to be Trey to sell the situation. The trap worked, and the team arrested Meyers.
