Selena Gomez’s legal team has strongly rejected a lawsuit that accuses the singer and her mother of defrauding investors in their mental health company Wondermind. The pop star’s attorney called the allegations “completely meritless” and confirmed they are filing a motion to dismiss the case.

The lawsuit, filed on August 13, 2026, in federal court in Delaware, names Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson as defendants. Two investment companies—Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC—are behind the legal action. They claim they invested nearly $1.2 million in Wondermind’s Series A preferred stock in 2022.

The investors say they were misled about the company’s true condition and the level of Gomez’s involvement. They are seeking a jury trial and want to cancel their investment agreements or recover damages.

Investors Allege False Promises and Hidden Problems

According to court documents, the investors claim they were told Wondermind had the right leadership, resources, and plans to become a profitable mental health platform. They say Gomez was presented as a co-founder, chief impact officer, and head of marketing who would be closely involved in promoting the company.

The lawsuit alleges that Gomez signed a contract to promote Wondermind but then ignored it. Investors claim the company promised to build a mobile app, secure advertising deals, and land celebrity magazine coverage—but none of these things happened.

“The partnerships did not exist. The initiatives never materialized. The app was never built,” the lawsuit states.

The investors also say they were kept in the dark about serious problems at Wondermind for more than three years. They only learned about the company’s struggles after a media investigation published in September 2025. The report described Wondermind as being in “utter financial and operational disarray”.

In May 2025, Wondermind laid off 60% of its staff. Employees had reportedly not been paid for weeks, and the company owed money to freelancers and vendors.

Selena Gomez’s Lawyer Fires Back

Mathew S. Rosengart, Gomez’s attorney, gave a strong response to the lawsuit in a statement to People magazine on August 15. He made it clear that his client denies all wrongdoing.

“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally,” Rosengart said.

He added that the legal team plans to fight the case in court. “We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her,” he stated.

Mother and Former Partner Also Deny Claims

Mandy Teefey, Gomez’s mother and co-founder of Wondermind, has also denied the allegations. She previously rejected claims made in a September 2025 media report that described her behavior as erratic and alleged substance abuse issues. At that time, she called the accusations “lies” from unhappy former employees.

Daniella Pierson, the third co-founder, has denied the allegations through her representative. She said she “welcomes the opportunity to present concrete documentation and financial records that establish the facts”. Pierson also stated that she never used investor money for personal expenses and invested her own money into the business.

What Is Wondermind?

Wondermind was launched in November 2021 as a mental fitness platform. The company offers mental health content, including podcasts, worksheets, and a newsletter. Its goal is to provide accessible mental health tools and conversations for everyday people.

The company faced financial trouble and internal disputes. Pierson was reportedly ousted from the company in January 2023 after a disagreement with Teefey.

What the Lawsuit Seeks

The investors are asking the court to cancel their investment agreements, which would return their money. They are also seeking damages, interest, and legal fees. The lawsuit includes claims of securities fraud, common-law fraud, and breach of contract.

The case is still in its early stages. Gomez’s legal team has not yet filed the formal motion to dismiss, but they have confirmed their intention to do so.

What This Means for Selena Gomez

This legal battle comes at a time when Gomez continues to balance her music career, acting roles, and business ventures. She has been open about her own mental health struggles and has used her platform to advocate for mental health awareness.

The lawsuit does not affect her current projects, including her work on the hit series Only Murders in the Building and her music career. Her legal team appears confident that the case will be dismissed.

For now, the singer’s focus remains on defending herself against what she and her lawyers call baseless accusations. The court will ultimately decide whether the investors’ claims have any merit.
