The King of the Monsters had a clear shot, but he chose not to take it. In the ninth episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, fans watched Godzilla chase Titan X (also known as Co-Cai) all the way to Skull Island. Everyone expected a big fight to the death. But instead of attacking, Godzilla stopped, roared, and then swam away. This surprising moment has left many viewers asking one simple question: Why did Godzilla let Titan X live? The Apple TV+ series gave a clear answer through character Keiko Randa, and it changes how we understand the famous monster.
Godzilla Acts as a Ruler, Not a Killer
The episode, titled “Ends of the Earth,” begins with a big chase across the ocean. Godzilla follows Titan X, who is following the helicopter that stole her egg. The group from Monarch watches from their ship, waiting for Godzilla to finish the fight. Lee Shaw, played by Kurt Russell, even cheers for Godzilla to attack. But when the two Titans face each other near the storm wall around Skull Island, nothing happens. Godzilla turns around and leaves.
Keiko Randa, played by Mari Yamamoto, is the first to understand what is happening. She tells the group that Godzilla is not a killer. His main job is to keep order between humans and Titans. He wants to make sure the Titans stay where they belong. Since Titan X came out of Skull Island, Godzilla simply made sure she went back there. His job was done.
“Godzilla isn’t a killer; he exists to maintain order between humans and monsters.” – Keiko Randa in Episode 9

Skull Island Holds a Hidden Rift to Another World
Keiko also shares another important idea. She believes Skull Island has a special rift. This rift can send Titan X back to Axis Mundi, which is the home world of the Titans. Godzilla knew about this rift. That is why he did not need to fight. He just had to guide Titan X to the island, and the land itself would take care of the rest. This shows that Godzilla thinks about the bigger picture. He wants to keep the balance between the human world and the Titan world. Killing is only a last choice for him.
This is not the first time Godzilla has spared an enemy. In the 2021 movie Godzilla vs. Kong, the two Titans fought a long battle. Godzilla won and had Kong on the ground. But he did not deliver a final deadly blow. Instead, he walked away. Later, the two worked together to fight MechaGodzilla. The movie did not fully explain why Godzilla showed mercy. But now, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 gives an answer. Godzilla values balance over bloodshed.

The Deeper Meaning Behind Godzilla’s Mercy
This new information adds more depth to the Godzilla character. For many years, movies showed Godzilla as a destroyer. He breaks buildings and causes chaos. But the Monsterverse shows a different side. Godzilla is more like a king or a sheriff. He protects the natural order. He only attacks when something breaks the rules.
In Episode 9, Titan X was not breaking any rules. She was just following her baby. She did not attack any cities or cause trouble for humans on purpose. She was a mother trying to save her child. Godzilla seems to understand this. He roared at her to keep moving, but he did not use his atomic breath to hurt her.
This idea also connects to the larger story of the season. The real villains in the show are not the Titans. The real villains are humans like Isabel Simmons. Isabel wants to use Titan X as a weapon. She plans to kill Kong and control Skull Island. Godzilla might sense this human evil. But for now, he trusts that Titan X will go home on her own.

What This Means for the Season Finale
Godzilla may have left Skull Island, but the danger is not over. Isabel and her team have put aggressive implants inside Titan X. They want to make her angry enough to fight Kong. If this happens, Godzilla might need to come back. He cannot allow two Titans to fight a war on Skull Island. It would break the balance he works so hard to protect.
Meanwhile, Keiko and Lee Shaw are searching the island for the stable rift. They believe it is the “Grand Central Station” of all the rifts around the world. If they find it, they can send Titan X home safely. But they have to act fast. Isabel is running out of patience, and Kentaro is making bad choices because he wants to save his dead father using time travel.

Kentaro’s Mistake Puts Everyone at Risk
Speaking of Kentaro, his role in Episode 9 explains why he has been acting so strange. He is not helping Isabel for money or power. He wants to use Axis Mundi as a time machine to stop his father Hiroshi from dying. Cate tries to stop him. She calls the plan crazy and reminds him that their father would not want this. But Kentaro will not listen.
“You want to exploit Axis Mundi as your personal time machine?” – Cate to Isabel in Episode 9
This conflict between the brother and sister makes the finale more exciting. Cate escapes from the helicopter and finds Titan X’s egg. She wants to give the baby back to its mother. Kentaro arrives and stops her. He still believes he can use the Titan to change the past. The show is setting up a big choice for Kentaro. Will he help his sister save the Titans, or will he help Isabel destroy Kong?

Keiko Finds Bill Randa’s Final Love Letter
On the other side of the island, Keiko and Lee find the place where Bill Randa died. This moment is very sad. Keiko cries and yells at Bill for leaving their son alone. But then, she finds all the probes Bill sent through the rifts. Inside each one is a letter. In the letters, Bill says the wedding vows he could not say when they got married. He promises to love her “to the ends of the earth and beyond.”
Keiko finally understands that Bill did not leave their family because he loved science more. He left because he could not stop looking for her. The rifts were never his true obsession. She was.

Setting the Stage for a Big Finale
Episode 9 ends with Titan X waking up from the anesthetic. The implants are working. She is more aggressive now and ready to fight. Kong is also nearby, tricked by the sound of Skullcrawlers. A big battle is coming. Godzilla may not be on the island right now, but he is always watching. If the balance tips too far, he will return.
