Kangana Ranaut is back on the big screen with a powerful true story. The actor just dropped the first look of her upcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, and it shows her playing a nurse with a bruised face but an unbreakable spirit. The movie honors the hospital staff who saved lives during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

The makers released a motion poster on May 27, 2026, giving everyone a proper look at Kangana Ranaut’s character. She plays a nurse named Girija Oak, who works at Mumbai’s Cama and Albless Hospital. The poster shows her walking through smoke and fire while helping a patient. Her face has visible bruises and blood, but she keeps moving forward without fear.

Real Heroes Who Stood Strong During 26/11 Attacks

Bharat Bhagya Vidhata is based on actual events from November 26, 2008. That night, terrorists attacked multiple locations across Mumbai. While the whole city was in panic, the staff at Cama and Albless Hospital did something extraordinary. They protected nearly 400 patients even when armed attackers were nearby.

The film tells the story of ordinary hospital workers. Nurses, ward boys, cleaners, lift operators, security staff, and administrative workers all worked together. None of them had weapons. They only had their sense of duty and love for humanity. And that turned out to be enough.

“We often celebrate loud heroism, but real courage is quieter – it shows up, stays back, and takes responsibility. ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ is an untold story of courage, sacrifice, humanity, and unity – of ordinary people who stood between terror and life itself.” – Kangana Ranaut

The actor shared the motion poster on Instagram with a caption that said, “Kuch khaas karke, aam hi kehlaate. Woh dikhte toh hain, par nazar nahi aate” (They do something special, yet remain ordinary. People see them, but they don’t truly notice).

When and Where to Watch Bharat Bhagya Vidhata

Bharat Bhagya Vidhata will release in cinemas on June 12, 2026. The movie will play in theaters across India. For international audiences, the release dates may vary by region. USA, UK, Canada, and Australia showtimes will likely follow the standard Friday release pattern around June 12. Indian viewers in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata can expect multiple shows from the morning of June 12.

The film faces competition at the box office. Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, Manoj Bajpayee’s Governor: The Silent Saviour, and Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past all release on the same date. This makes June 12 a crowded day for Bollywood releases.

Kangana’s Return to Big Screen After Emergency

This film marks Kangana Ranaut’s return to cinema after her 2025 release Emergency, where she played former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. That movie was a political drama which she also directed and co-produced. Now she switches gears to play a frontline healthcare worker.

The film is written and directed by Manoj Tapadia. It marks his feature film directorial debut. The story focuses specifically on what happened inside Cama Hospital during those terrifying hours.

Strong Supporting Cast Joins the Mission

Alongside Kangana Ranaut, the film features a talented ensemble cast. Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Amrutha Namdev, Esha Dey, Priya Berde, Asha Shelar, Suhita Thatte, Rasika Agashe, Aditya Mishra, and Zahid Khan all play important roles. Most of these actors play hospital staff members who worked together to save lives.

The film is presented by Jayantilal Gada and produced by Pen Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Paramhans Creations. The production houses teamed up with Eunoia Films LLP and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. to bring this story to the screen.

What Makes This Story Different

Kangana Ranaut explained why this story matters to her. She said the film salutes people who usually go unnoticed. When trouble hits, everyone looks at people in uniform or in positions of authority. But this movie honors those unseen uniforms, the ones nobody notices until everything is burning.

The director Manoj Tapadia added that showing loud explosions and violence is easy. But putting quiet bravery on screen is much harder. His film tries to capture those small moments when an ordinary person decided to push aside fear and save someone else’s life.
