What Happened in Episode 1 of Dream to You
Episode 1 of Dream to You introduces viewers to the main characters and sets up the central conflict. The story begins with Woo Soo-bin (played by Hwang In-youp) winning Best New Director and Best Picture at an international film festival for his debut feature “Wandering”. During his acceptance speech, he mentions that a girl once gave him a dream which he has now achieved. Flashbacks show the high school romance between Soo-bin and Joo Yi-jae (played by Lee Hyeri). But when they were 19, Soo-bin suddenly left without any explanation, breaking Yi-jae’s heart.
In the present day, Yi-jae works as a reporter who has given up on her dream of becoming a film director. She is struggling to get by and has settled into a ordinary life. When the two exes reunite during a work encounter, Yi-jae freezes and tries to hide. She even lies that she has a husband and child. However, Soo-bin sees through her lie and gives her their unfinished screenplay, asking her to complete it with him.
Yi-jae spills coffee on the script and storms out. She later confronts Soo-bin in the rain, telling him that he is her biggest regret and that he should have stayed away. The episode ends with Soo-bin standing in the rain, looking guilty, leaving viewers wondering what really caused their separation 15 years ago.
The production team has revealed that the reason Yi-jae called Soo-bin “my regret” and the truth behind why they were forced to part ways will be revealed in the second episode.
