About the Anime Series
From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is based on the light novel series by Shigeru Sagazaki. It first started as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2020. Square Enix published it as a light novel in April 2021 under their SQEX Novel imprint.
The story follows Beryl Gardinant, a middle-aged swordsman who runs a small dojo in a village. His quiet life changes when one of his former students, now the leader of the knights of the Liberion Order, asks him to become an instructor in the capital. Beryl slowly realizes that many of his former students have reached high positions using the techniques he taught them.
Season 1 had 13 episodes, all available on Prime Video. Season 2 premiered on July 8, 2026. The second season brings back the same production team. Akio Kazumi returns as director at studios Passione and Hayabusa Film. Kunihiko Okada is back as scriptwriter, and Satsuki Hayasaka returns as character designer. Yasuharu Takanashi is also returning as composer.
The new season introduces four new characters voiced by new cast members. The ending theme song comes from the rock band BLUE ENCOUNT.
