Netflix has confirmed that actors Cha Tae Hyun and Uhm Ji Won will lead its upcoming family action-comedy film Two Cops and Five Kids. The streaming platform made the announcement on August 6, 2026. The movie marks the first on-screen collaboration between the two popular Korean stars.
What’s the story about?
Two Cops and Five Kids follows Dong Sik (Cha Tae Hyun), a detective who suddenly finds himself alone in charge of all five of his children. His wife Kyung Ah (Uhm Ji Won) leaves home on what appears to be a trip, but it’s actually a covert mission.
While Dong Sik struggles to juggle parenting and prepare for his promotion exam, the entire family gets pulled into an unexpected operation against a criminal organization. It’s a chaotic mix of crime-fighting and family comedy.
Who’s who in the cast
Cha Tae Hyun plays Dong Sik, a violent crimes detective and father of five. He’s known for his warm charm and solid acting across films like Scandal Makers, Along with the Gods, and the hit series Moving.
Uhm Ji Won takes on the role of Kyung Ah, Dong Sik’s wife and a former ace police officer. After spending ten years raising their children, she accepts a secret mission from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in hopes of returning to police work. Uhm Ji Won has earned praise for her work in Little Women, Dear Hongrang, and When Life Gives You Tangerines.
The five children have equally memorable names. They are Spring (Do Young Seo), Summer (Kim Na Eun), Autumn (Jung Han Sol), Winter (Sim Ji An), and April (Kim Ra Hee). Their names hint at the playful, close-knit family dynamic at the center of the story.
Behind the camera
The film is directed by Kim Jong Hyun, who previously helmed Run-Off and Mr. Gam’s Victory. He is known for balancing strong ensemble casts with relatable humor and warm storytelling.
The script comes from Yoon Jin Ha and Kim Jong Hyun. Production involves TPS Company, Toastor Pictures, and Sony Pictures International Productions. Netflix will present the film globally.
First time together on screen

The film’s Korean title has been translated in some reports as Reinstated Police Officer or Returning Police Officer. But the official English title remains Two Cops and Five Kids.
