Emraan Hashmi’s latest film Awarapan 2 has wrapped up its first week with a massive ₹113.50 crore net collection in India. The action drama, which released on August 14, has also crossed ₹161 crore worldwide, making it the actor’s first solo film to enter the ₹100 crore club.
The film, directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced under the Vishesh Films banner, has turned out to be a major commercial success. It features Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, and Shabana Azmi in important roles. What makes this achievement special is that the original Awarapan (2007) had failed at the box office during its initial release but later gained a cult following.
The sequel has now surpassed the lifetime earnings of all of Hashmi’s previous solo films. Before this, his biggest solo hit was Raaz 3, which earned around ₹70 crore net. Baadshaho, where he shared lead billing with Ajay Devgn and Vidyut Jammwal, had collected ₹82 crore net. Awarapan 2 has comfortably crossed both these numbers within just one week.
Day-Wise Box Office Breakdown
The film started its theatrical run with a strong ₹22 crore on its opening Friday. The numbers jumped significantly on Saturday, with the film collecting ₹33.75 crore – a 53.4 percent increase from the first day. This growth came during the Independence Day holiday weekend, which helped boost footfall in theatres.
Sunday saw collections at ₹26 crore. The weekend total crossed ₹81 crore, giving the film a solid foundation heading into the weekdays.
As expected, Monday brought a drop to ₹9.25 crore. However, the film showed stability on Tuesday with ₹9.75 crore, actually showing a slight growth compared to Monday. Wednesday saw a dip to ₹6.75 crore, and Thursday – day seven – brought in ₹6 crore.
The total India net collection after seven days stands at ₹113.50 crore.
Worldwide Performance
Awarapan 2 has also performed well in overseas markets. The film’s India gross collection has reached approximately ₹135.08 crore. Adding the overseas earnings of ₹26.30 crore, the worldwide gross collection stands at ₹161.67 crore.
The film crossed the ₹150 crore mark globally on day six itself. Trade analysts note that the film is now racing towards the ₹200 crore mark globally.
Emraan Hashmi’s Career Milestone
This is Emraan Hashmi’s first solo film to enter the ₹100 crore club. The actor, who has been in the industry for over 18 years, had been waiting for a clean theatrical success. Awarapan 2 has delivered that success in a big way.
The film has also set a new benchmark for Vishesh Films. The production house’s earlier major successes included Raaz 3 and Murder 2, but neither of those films crossed ₹100 crore domestically.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted on social media that Awarapan 2 now holds the distinction of being Hashmi’s first solo film to cross the century mark.
Budget and Returns
According to reports, Awarapan 2 was made on a budget of approximately ₹45 crore. With the film earning ₹113.50 crore net in India in its first week, it has already made a strong return on investment. The reported return on investment stands at 151 percent.
The film has also outperformed Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, which released on the same day and has collected around ₹31 crore net so far.
Theatre Occupancy and Ticket Sales
The film was released across 72,744 shows during its first week. Occupancy rates remained healthy throughout the opening weekend. On the first Friday, overall occupancy was 45.73 percent, with night shows peaking at 74.31 percent. Saturday recorded the highest overall occupancy of the week at 59.94 percent.
On BookMyShow, Awarapan 2 sold a total of 21.21 lakh tickets over the week. Pre-sales alone accounted for 2.9 lakh tickets, with peak sales occurring on Saturday at 5.36 lakh.
The Nostalgia Factor
One of the major reasons behind the film’s success is the cult following of the original Awarapan. The 2007 film, directed by Mohit Suri, had failed at the box office but found an audience through television and music. Its songs, particularly Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta, remained popular long after the film left theatres.
Producer Vishesh Bhatt had maintained that the sequel was “not a cash grab film” and revealed that the project initially found no takers among distributors. However, the film’s understanding of what audiences held on to from the original – its music, emotions, and most importantly, the character of Shivam Pandit – seems to have paid off.
Critical Reception
The film received positive-to-mixed reviews from critics. News18 Showsha gave Awarapan 2 three stars out of five, writing that “Emraan Hashmi is terrific as Shivam, the action is a total paisa-vasool, and the nostalgia hits at just the right moments”.
Cinema Express noted in their review that the film was “appreciated for playing on the nostalgia but the story itself was less engaging for many”.
Some fans on social media have criticized the writing and direction, saying that Emraan Hashmi and the nostalgia factor saved the sequel.

What This Means for Bollywood
Awarapan 2 is currently the eighth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2026. The film has also pushed Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2 out of the top three most profitable post-COVID Independence Day releases.
With no major release until Toxic arrives in theatres on August 26, the film has a clear run ahead. The second weekend is expected to bring another boost to the collections.
