Desir Herrman’s mission to rewrite a doomed future continues this fall. The official website for A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special Season 2 released a brand-new trailer and main key visual on September 15, 2026, confirming an October 7, 2026 premiere in Japan. The second season will air on Fuji TV’s “+Ultra” programming block and stream internationally on Crunchyroll.
The new promotional video gives fans a first listen to the opening theme song “Sorrow” by Japanese rock band FLOW, who return after performing Season 1’s opening track “GET BACK.” The main key visual shows Desir Herrman and his Hebrion Academy companions standing together, with a new threat looming behind them.
When and Where to Watch Season 2
The second season premieres in Japan on October 7, 2026, running on Fuji TV’s “+Ultra” block every Wednesday at 24:45 JST (effectively Thursday at 12:45 a.m. JST). The series will also air on Kansai TV on October 8 and on Tokai TV and AT-X on October 10.
Japanese streaming begins on October 7 at 25:15 JST on d Anime Store, U-NEXT, and Anime Hōdai, with other services following on October 11. For audiences outside Japan, Crunchyroll will simulcast the new season as part of its Fall 2026 anime lineup.

FLOW Returns With New Opening Theme Sorrow
FLOW returns to the franchise after contributing the Season 1 opening theme. The band shared a comment about creating the new song:
“Following ‘GET BACK,’ the opening theme for Season 1, we created a new song titled ‘Sorrow.’ As Desir Herrman and his companions continue their increasingly intense battles after returning from the future, we wanted to express through music the strength possessed by those who have truly experienced sorrow and pain. We hope viewers will enjoy the song alongside their story.”
The new trailer marks the first time fans can hear “Sorrow” in full context with the animation. FLOW is also performing the opening theme for another Fall 2026 anime, making this a rare double tie-up for the band.

Returning Cast and Production Team
The main voice cast from Season 1 returns for the second season:

The production staff also remains largely unchanged. Taishi Kawaguchi returns as director at Arvo Animation. Takamitsu Kono handles series composition, Hiromi Kato serves as character designer, and Kenta Higashiohji composes the music.
What the Story Covers
A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special is based on a South Korean web novel by Usonan, first published on KakaoPage from September 2016 to August 2019. A webtoon adaptation illustrated by Wookjakga began serialization in May 2018. Yen Press publishes the English version of the manhwa.
The story follows Desir Herrman, a mage who fought alongside five companions to save humanity from the Shadow Realms. After their final battle ends in failure, Desir is sent 13 years back in time to his school days at Hebrion Academy. With full knowledge of the future, he sets out to change the events that led to humanity’s destruction.
Season 1 aired for 12 episodes from October to December 2023. A second season was confirmed in December 2023, and the series made its world premiere at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles.
