Disney+ Korea’s hit psychological thriller Nine Puzzles has left fans wondering if the story will continue with a second season. The show, starring Kim Da Mi and Son Suk Ku, became one of the platform’s top-performing Korean series. However, the lead actors recently shared their thoughts on the possibility of Nine Puzzles Season 2, and their answers were not very hopeful.

The series follows criminal profiler Yoon I-na (Kim Da Mi), who was once suspected of her uncle’s murder. A decade later, she teams up with detective Kim Han-saem (Son Suk Ku) to solve a new string of killings linked to mysterious puzzle pieces. The show’s gripping finale left room for more, but the actors say a sequel is unlikely.

Son Suk Ku was direct when asked about Nine Puzzles Season 2.

“I don’t think there will be a season 2,” he said in a recent interview. “In a previous interview, I said that there would be no season 2, but the reporters asked, ‘Why are you trampling on the fans’ expectations and hopes?’” He explained that he didn’t want to give false hope since there have been no discussions about a second season.

“The reason I’m speaking so negatively is that I don’t want to get people’s hopes up for something that might not exist,” he added. “There were no discussions about a season 2. Although in the past, ‘D.P Season 2’ was made because the fans wanted it. Some fans have also asked for a second season of ‘My Liberation Notes.’ But I think the chances are very slim. Not just due to scheduling conflicts, but because of various other circumstances. I don’t think it’s likely.”

Kim Da Mi also shared her thoughts. She confirmed that no talks about Season 2 have happened yet but didn’t completely rule out a return.

“There haven’t been any talks about a Season 2,” she said. “I’d have to think about it. If there is a Season 2, it should be different from Season 1, but still keep the parts fans loved. That’s something I’d need to really consider.”

The show’s ending left some clues that could hint at a continuation. The final scene shows I-na returning to a new crime scene with another puzzle piece, suggesting the mystery isn’t over. Fans have been speculating whether this means a new killer or a copycat is at work.

Some viewers believe the ending was meant to leave the door open for more.

“SEASON 2 OF NINE PUZZLES IS COMING LETS GOOOOOOOOO,” wrote one excited fan on social media.

“PUHLEASE let this happen, I want more of them investigating murder cases,” another commented.

“I think there going to be a season 2. The ending was kinda giving that hint. If it dose I am so here for it,” a third fan said.

Despite the fan demand, Son Suk Ku explained that the final scene wasn’t necessarily setting up a sequel.

“I didn’t view the ending as a lead-in, but more as a symbol of continuity—life goes on in that world, and new crimes emerge,” he said. “That puzzle could be interpreted as a copycat case, but for me, it simply represented another incident.”

The show’s director, Yoon Jong-bin, also spoke about the series’ unique style. He wanted the story to feel unpredictable and slightly unrealistic, which added to its charm.

“The events that take place in Nine Puzzles are actually a bit unrealistic, and I wanted that to come across,” he said. “It’s a very interesting reveal in the end.”
