As of early January 2026, Peacock has not officially announced a second season. The decision is still pending, but the show’s creators and star have clear ideas about where the story could go and a strong desire to continue.
The series follows Alexander Hale (Simu Liu), an intelligence analyst for a secret agency called The Orphanage. He discovers his brain has been hacked by nanotechnology, letting an unknown enemy see and hear everything he does. Instead of shutting it down, his bosses use the hack as bait to find the culprit, turning Alexander’s entire life into a monitored mission.
The Current Status of Season 2
There is no official renewal for The Copenhagen Test Season 2. The first season’s eight episodes were released all at once on December 27, 2025, on Peacock. Streaming services like Peacock typically take time to analyze viewership numbers and completion rates before deciding on a show’s future. This means fans are in a waiting period.
The show has received mixed but generally positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 75% critic rating and a 78% audience score. These numbers are a factor, but the final choice will come down to how many people watched the show and, more importantly, how many finished the season.
What the Creators and Cast Say About Continuing
Despite the lack of a green light, the creative team is optimistic and has plans. Thomas Brandon, the series creator, has said the show was always envisioned as an ongoing story.
“There’s been a thought there, but it’s just thoughts,” Brandon told Deadline. “But yeah, it was always designed as an ongoing series. So there’s plans and ideas and hopes for what a second season could be.”
In another interview, Brandon teased that the Season 1 finale “opens a much bigger question” that would naturally “lead us into season 2”. Star and executive producer Simu Liu is equally invested in continuing Alexander Hale’s journey. He has spoken about the importance of the character, a Chinese American spy proving his loyalty and fighting for his country.
“Alexanderโs been a gift,” Liu told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s an important character: a Chinese American spy fighting for his country, making his parents proud, making his country proud. I’d love to keep exploring that.”
How Season 1’s Ending Sets Up Future Stories
The Season 1 finale delivered several major twists that create direct pathways for a second season. The story seemed to reach a resolution, with Alexander being told the hack was over and fellow agent Michelle (Melissa Barrera) getting a new identity. This quickly unravels.
Alexander learns the true hacker is Victor Simonek (Saul Rubinek), a close family friend he considered an uncle. This is a deep personal betrayal. Victor then reveals that Alexander is not alone. He is just “Asset 5”.
Victor shows a wall of screens with live feeds from five other people around the world who have also been implanted with the same nanotechnology. This reveals a global conspiracy much larger than Alexander initially understood. Furthermore, Michelle is shown on one of the screens, still being watched as a “loose end,” suggesting her story is far from over.
The season ends with Victor telling Alexander, “For people like us, Alexander, it is never done,” leaving Alexander with a monumental choice about whether to join Victor or try to stop him.
Potential Stories for a New Season
A second season would have rich material to explore. The main plot could follow Alexander as he deals with Victor’s offer and the revelation of the other five “assets”. Does he work with Victor to infiltrate and destroy the operation from within? Or does he reject him and try to find and help the other hacked individuals?
The show could also expand its world. Showrunner Jennifer Yale hinted at Michelle’s unresolved past, noting there was a detailed backstory crafted for her character that wasn’t fully revealed. Her journey as a “loose end” could become a major storyline. Creators have also mentioned ideas for a prequel exploring the origins of The Orphanage, though it’s unclear if that would be part of a Season 2 or a separate project.
