Ponies creators are actively preparing for a second season, hoping to continue the story that left viewers on a major cliffhanger. Co-creators Susanna Fogel and David Iserson confirmed they are “putting everything together” for more episodes, though streaming service Peacock has not yet made an official renewal announcement. The spy thriller, starring Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson, premiered on January 15, 2026, and quickly became a hit for the platform.
The first season ended with several stunning twists, leaving the main characters in immediate danger and revealing shocking betrayals. The creators and cast members have shared their ideas for where the story could go next, and the show’s strong early performance suggests fans will likely get more of the series.
Creators Detail Active Plans For The Next Season
In a recent interview, the team behind Ponies shared their clear intention to keep the story going. Susanna Fogel and David Iserson explained that they designed the show from the beginning as a multi-season story.
David Iserson said, “No. We always pitched this as an ongoing television show, which, for a while, was kind of out of vogue, but now I think it is back. We didn’t see this as a closed story from any version of it.”
They confirmed that while writing the first season, they always envisioned more chapters. When pitching the show to Peacock and recruiting actors, they discussed a long-term plan covering multiple seasons. This approach helped them attract a talented cast, including famous stars like Emilia Clarke, who were willing to commit to a longer project.
Fogel added that the core friendship between the two lead characters, Bea and Twila, is the emotional center of the show that they want to explore further. She hinted that future seasons could take the spies beyond the Cold War setting of the first season, opening up new international locations and missions.
Major Season Finale Twists Set Up New Conflicts
The finale of Ponies Season 1 delivered major revelations that change everything for the characters. The season followed Bea Grant (Emilia Clarke) and Twila Hasbeck (Haley Lu Richardson), two women who become CIA operatives after their spy husbands are reportedly killed.
The final episode revealed that Bea’s husband, Chris Grant (Louis Boyer), is actually alive. Even more shocking, it was revealed that Chris, not Twila’s husband, was the KGB mole within the CIA all along. The season ends with Bea and Twila held at gunpoint by the KGB inside the American embassy in Moscow, with their fate left unknown.
The creators confirmed that Twila’s husband, Tom Hasbeck (John Macmillan), is truly dead and was not the traitor. These twists create intense new dynamics for a potential second season. Bea must grapple with the betrayal of her husband, whom she grieved, while also discovering he is alive. Twila must deal with the guilt of wrongly believing her husband was a traitor, now knowing he was innocent.
Stars Share Their Hopes For Their Characters’ Futures
The lead actors have ideas about where their characters could go in a new season. Emilia Clarke hopes her character, Bea, reacts strongly to the news about her husband.
Emilia Clarke told TheWrap, “I’m hoping that woman snaps. I am really hoping, because she had a baby snap. I think finding out that he’s alive, like, ‘It’s on, I will take you down.’”
Clarke imagines a “feral” response from Bea, who feels used as a “pawn” in a larger game. Co-creator Susanna Fogel agreed, noting that from Bea’s perspective, Chris’s actions caused her immense pain and opened a new, complicated chapter in her life.
Haley Lu Richardson sees many possibilities for Twila, who has discovered new strength and friendship through her ordeal. Richardson wondered if Twila might explore a romantic relationship with a woman, which would bring out new sides of the character. In a separate interview, Richardson joked about the characters’ evolving spy skills, suggesting that in a second season, they might be “as dangerous as a kitten with sharp nails”.
The creators teased that a second season would feature “more intrigue and more complicated loyalties,” as well as “more kissing”. They aim to continue weaving a “tangled web” of espionage and personal drama.

Strong Viewer Response Boosts Renewal Chances
The show’s performance suggests a good chance for Peacock to order more episodes. Shortly after its full-season release, Ponies ranked second on Peacock’s streaming charts in the United States, a strong sign of viewer interest.
Critics have also responded well. The series holds a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is labeled “Certified Fresh”. This score is close to the highly praised Apple TV+ spy series Slow Horses, to which Ponies has been compared. The audience score on the same site is a solid 73%.
This combination of popular and critical success makes a strong case for renewal. Peacock has a history of renewing original shows that perform well, such as Poker Face and Twisted Metal. The creators have expressed their hope for multiple seasons, with Fogel joking they would like “14 or 15” to bring the story up to the present day.
