What Is The Apartment Job About
The story follows Park Hae-gang (played by Ji Sung), a former gangster who runs a loan shark business. He also operates a secret casino with his old gang members.
Hae-gang needs 10 billion won (approximately $6.7 million) to save his father figure Yong-man, who gets arrested on false charges. A police commissioner pressures Hae-gang for this money, and when he refuses, the commissioner arrests his friends and mentor.
Desperate for cash, Hae-gang learns about a luxury apartment complex with billions in its reserve fund. He decides to run for resident council president to get his hands on that money.
Ha Yoon-kyung plays Kang Ha-ri, an aspiring lawyer who joins Hae-gang’s scheme. She poses as a lawyer and becomes part of his fake family. Park Byung-eun plays a construction mogul who clashes with Hae-gang, while Moon So-ri plays a nosy neighbor who knows everything happening in the complex.
Episode 1 Recap
The first episode introduces Park Hae-gang as a loan shark who always gets his money back. His main income comes from a secret casino run by the Oasis gang.
Yong-man, the former gang leader who raised Hae-gang like a son, now faces arrest. Police commissioner Ju-gwon demands 10 billion won from Hae-gang. When Hae-gang refuses, Ju-gwon arrests Yong-man and freezes all of Hae-gang’s accounts.
Meanwhile, inside the apartment complex, resident secretary Choi and president Gang-won plan to steal from the long-term reserve fund by inflating maintenance costs. Suk-jin, a former beauty pageant winner, grows suspicious when Choi asks for millions just to repair a floor.
Hae-gang learns about the apartment’s reserve fund and sees it as his only way to save Yong-man.
Episode 2 Recap
The second episode continues with Hae-gang learning from a professional scammer named Lizard about how money gets stolen from the reserve fund. Lizard has been stealing from residents for years.
Hae-gang discovers the fund already holds 17 billion won. Stealing it seems easy because the office handles confidential information carelessly.
Suk-jin becomes a bigger problem. She acts like she owns the place, looks down on others, and even destroys plants planted by school children because she does not like them.
Chung-won, a powerful figure with political connections, could block Hae-gang’s path to becoming president. He believes the apartment belongs only to families who live there, not renters.

What Makes This Show Different
The Apartment Job stands out because it turns an everyday setting into a crime scene. The show tackles real neighborhood issues like parking disputes and delivery problems.
Ji Sung shared what drew him to the project:
The premise of all these events unfolding inside a massive residential complex was instantly intriguing. I was completely captivated by the charm of this team play — setting up a fake family just to pull off a scam — and the fact that it’s a bright, refreshing comedy rather than a heavy crime noir.
The actor also mentioned how filming changed his view of apartment living:
Meeting the actual residents in these environments changed how I look at apartments. I felt a genuine sense of warmth.
Director Jo Yong-won described the show’s appeal:
The irony is that Park Hae-gang aims for the council presidency just to steal the maintenance reserve fund, but he keeps accidentally saving the neighborhood instead.
The series has already pulled in strong ratings, reaching a national average of 5.4 percent.
