The wait is almost over for fans of the angel and demon who have captured hearts around the world. Prime Video has officially confirmed that the final chapter of Good Omens will arrive on May 13, 2026 . Before the story of Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) comes to an end, it helps to look back at where things went so wrongโand so heartbreakingly romanticโin the second season.
If you haven’t watched since 2023 or just need a memory refresh, here is a simple breakdown of everything that happened in Good Omens Season 2. The season ended with a kiss that fans still talk about and a separation that broke everyone’s hearts .
The Strangest Delivery at Aziraphale’s Bookshop
Season 2 of Good Omens begins with a truly bizarre situation. Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) shows up naked at the door of Aziraphale’s bookshop in Soho. He has no memory of who he is or how he got there . The only thing he carries is an empty cardboard box. Aziraphale, being the polite angel he is, takes him in and decides to hide him from both Heaven and Hell .
Crowley is not happy about this at all. He wants nothing to do with helping the archangel who gave them so much trouble in the past. But he eventually agrees to help Aziraphale figure out what is going on . The pair decide to call the amnesiac angel “Jim” because it sounds like the first part of his real name .
Heaven and Hell Come Looking
While Aziraphale and Crowley try to keep Gabriel hidden, both celestial sides are desperately searching for the missing archangel. Heaven sends a cheerful but clueless angel named Muriel (Quelin Sepulveda) to investigate the bookshop undercover . Meanwhile, Hell is also keeping a close watch.
The situation becomes more complicated when demons led by Shax (Miranda Richardson) surround the bookshop . They know Gabriel is inside and want to capture him. At the same time, Aziraphale becomes distracted by a different kind of problem. He decides he wants to play matchmaker for two local shopkeepers.
A Plan to Fix a Human Romance
Maggie (Maggie Service) runs the record shop next door to the bookshop, and Nina (Nina Sosanya) runs the coffee shop called “Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death” . Aziraphale notices that Maggie has feelings for Nina and decides to help them fall in love . He organizes a ball at his bookshop to bring them together .
This side story gives viewers a mirror of the main relationship. Maggie and Nina represent what Aziraphale and Crowley cannot seem to figure out for themselves . Both Maggie and Nina eventually tell Crowley that it is obvious he loves Aziraphale, pushing the demon to finally face his feelings .
The Minisodes Show the History
Throughout Season 2 of Good Omens, viewers get three special flashback episodes called “minisodes” . These show important moments from Aziraphale and Crowley‘s long history together.
In “A Companion to Owls,” we see them 5,000 years ago during the story of Job from the Bible . Peter Davison, who is David Tennant’s real-life father-in-law, plays Job. His grandson Ty Tennant plays Job’s son, making it a three-generation family moment on screen .
“The Resurrectionists” takes place in 1827 Edinburgh, where the pair deal with grave robbers . This episode lets Tennant use his natural Scottish accent.
“Nazi Zombie Flesheaters” happens in 1941 London . It brings back Mark Gatiss and Steve Pemberton as Nazi zombies and shows Aziraphale performing a bullet catch on stage .
These flashbacks show how the relationship between the angel and demon grew closer over thousands of years. Crowley constantly encourages Aziraphale to think for himself and question Heaven’s orders .
The Big Reveal About Gabriel
As the mystery unfolds, Crowley goes undercover in Heaven to find answers . He discovers that Gabriel had been secretly meeting with Beelzebub (Shelley Conn), the Grand Duke of Hell . They met in pubs on Earth and fell in love. When Heaven wanted to start another war with Hell, Gabriel refused to go along with the plan.
The other archangels forced Gabriel to have his memory wiped, but he was clever about it . Beelzebub had given him a fly and told him it could be used as a container. Gabriel stored all his memories inside the fly before the memory wipe. The matchbox from The Resurrectionists pub contained the fly all along .
In the final confrontation at the bookshop, Beelzebub appears and reveals the truth . She and Gabriel decide to leave both Heaven and Hell behind to be together. They walk away singing “Everyday” by Buddy Holly, choosing love over their duties .
The Kiss That Changed Everything
After Gabriel and Beelzebub leave, The Metatron (Derek Jacobi) arrives at the bookshop with an offer . He asks Aziraphale to return to Heaven and become the new Supreme Archangel, now that Gabriel is gone . Aziraphale is excited about this opportunity. He believes he can finally make a difference from the inside and fix Heaven’s problems .
When Crowley hears the news, he is devastated. He does not want to go back to Heaven. He tells Aziraphale that both Heaven and Hell are toxic and that they should run away together . Crowley says he wants them to be “an us.” He wants to leave all the celestial drama behind and just be together on Earth.
Then it happens. Crowley kisses Aziraphale . It is the moment fans had waited years to see. The demon finally puts his feelings into action.
But the moment does not last. Aziraphale, stunned by the kiss and confused by the choice, says the most heartbreaking words possible: “I forgive you” . Crowley responds with “Don’t bother” and walks away .
Aziraphale gets into the elevator with The Metatron and ascends to Heaven. Crowley gets into his beloved Bentley and drives away alone . The nightingales, which symbolize their connection, cannot be heard .
Why the Ending Hurt So Much
The ending of Good Omens Season 2 left viewers completely wrecked . Fans took to social media to express their pain. One fan famously wrote, “Neil Gaiman You Owe Me Therapy” . The season took the beloved “ineffable husbands” and tore them apart just when they finally addressed their feelings.
The pain comes from the misunderstanding between them. Aziraphale thinks he is doing the right thing by accepting the promotion. He believes he can fix Heaven and then bring Crowley back as an angel so they can work together properly . But Crowley does not want to be an angel again. He does not want to be part of any system. He just wants them to be together as themselves .
Neither of them truly hears what the other is saying. The kiss becomes a goodbye instead of a beginning.
What Comes Next
The final moments of Season 2 set up the biggest threat yet. When Aziraphale asks The Metatron what comes next, the old angel mentions something called “The Second Coming” . This is not a happy topic. It refers to Jesus returning to Earth for the final judgment, which would basically mean another Armageddon.
This is the story that the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman discussed together almost 35 years ago . They had ideas about what would happen next to these characters, and those ideas are finally being brought to screen.
The third season of Good Omens will not be a full season of episodes. Due to the sexual a*sault allegations against Neil Gaiman, production was paused and the plans changed . The final chapter will be one 90-minute episode . Gaiman contributed to the writing of this finale but will not be involved in the production .
Michael Sheen and David Tennant both return as Aziraphale and Crowley for this final outing . Production began in early 2025 in Scotland .
Prime Video confirmed the release date on social media on February 13, 2026, with a simple message: “And finallyโฆ3. See you soon ๐๐” . The final episode arrives on May 13, 2026 on Prime Video .
Viewers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India will all be able to stream it on the same day through Prime Video .
