Taylor Sheridan’s latest drama The Madison just wrapped its first season on Paramount+, but the story of the Clyburn family is already continuing. Before the series even premiered, production had already finished work on the second season. Here is everything we know about the new episodes, including which cast member will not return.
Why Two Seasons Were Filmed Back-to-Back
The decision to film two seasons at once came down to one main reason: Kurt Russell’s schedule. The actor, who plays family patriarch Preston Clyburn, was already committed to the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+ when The Madison was getting ready to start filming.
Russell explained that he initially thought he would have to turn down the role because of the timing. But Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor Sheridan, who both serve as executive producers, found a way to make it work.
“Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor were able to get together with the people at Paramount+ and said, ‘Well, let’s do two seasons instead of just one,’” Russell recalled. “‘And then before we start the second season next year, instead of doing that, we will start with Kurt’s stuff. We really do want him to play the guy. And we’ll get his first season out of the way first, and jam all that in there, and then go into the second season and do that.’ And so we were able to do that.”
Production on the first season ran from August to December 2024, filming in Montana and North Texas. The second season filmed from September to December 2025, following a similar schedule. In January, cast member Elle Chapman shared on her Instagram Stories that filming for Season 2 had wrapped, posting a photo of the cast on set with the caption, “And that’s a wrap on Season 2. Heart is full.”
Both seasons will have six episodes each, the same episode count as the first season.
One Main Cast Member Will Not Return
While most of the main cast is expected to return for the second season, Matthew Fox will not be part of the new episodes. Fox played Paul Clyburn, the younger brother of Preston.
When asked about his future on the show, Fox said, “This is a contained experience for me in the show, and I’m very happy about that. It’s been an incredible experience.”
His co-star Beau Garrett suggested that things could change, saying “you never know” where the show might go. Fox responded, “You do never know, I guess. But it’s been great.”
As of now, Fox appears to be the only cast member confirmed to not be returning for the second season. The rest of the main cast, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, and Ben Schnetzer, are all expected to continue with the show.
What to Expect in Season 2
The first season focused on Stacy Clyburn (Pfeiffer) moving her family from New York City to Montana after the death of her husband Preston. Now that the first season has aired, the cast has shared some details about what comes next.
Pfeiffer described the second season as focusing on what happens after the first wave of grief passes. “It’s the messy and profound rebuilding of everything that you knew after everything that you knew has fallen apart and what that looks like,” she told Variety.
Russell added that the second season brings a new level of danger to the story. “I think it’s fair to say that in Season 2 — and I believe Michelle will agree with me — what happens is the level of real danger goes up,” he said. “Things begin to become dangerous in realistic ways.”
Director Christina Alexandra Voros, who directed every episode of the first season, said the new season will start answering questions about what comes next for the Clyburn family.
Release Information for Global Audiences
The Madison Season 1 premiered on Paramount+ on March 14, 2026, with the final three episodes releasing on March 21. The series is available on the streaming platform in all regions where Paramount+ operates, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India.
A release date for The Madison Season 2 has not yet been announced. Given that production wrapped in January 2026, the new season is expected to arrive sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. Paramount+ has not made any official announcement about the exact premiere date.

The Show’s Connection to Yellowstone
The Madison was originally announced as a Yellowstone spin-off, but the connection between the two shows remains unclear. No characters from Yellowstone have appeared in the first season, and there are no confirmed plans for any crossovers in the second season.
The series stands on its own as a family drama about grief, loss, and starting over. Russell described the show as a “female-gaze-oriented show” that feels very different from Sheridan’s other work. He also praised Sheridan’s writing, saying, “It’s a very different show for Taylor in that it’s a very female-gaze-oriented show. And I think it’s extremely well written.”
