The new romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany arrived in theaters on April 10, 2026, bringing Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page together on the big screen. The movie follows Anna, a young woman who loses her way after her mother’s death, as she makes a crazy decision to fly to Italy and ends up finding much more than she expected.

Anna (Bailey) is a culinary school dropout working as a house sitter in New York. She feels stuck and keeps pretending to live other people’s lives instead of building her own. After a chance meeting with Matteo, an Italian real estate agent played by Lorenzo de Moor, she decides to take a leap and fly to Tuscany using a plane ticket her late mother had bought. When she arrives with no place to stay, she remembers Matteo mentioning his empty villa and decides to crash there. That choice changes everything .

Anna Picks Michael Over Matteo in the Film’s Love Triangle

The movie sets up what looks like a love triangle, but the ending makes it very clear who Anna chooses. Anna ends up with Michael, Matteo’s cousin, played by Regé-Jean Page. There was never really a true love triangle to begin with. Anna and Matteo share a brief spark at a New York bar, but Matteo falls asleep before anything serious happens between them. Anna travels to Italy on her own, and Matteo does not even know she is staying in his villa. When Matteo’s mother, Gabriella (Isabella Ferrari), shows up unexpectedly and finds Anna there, Anna panics and lets her believe she is Matteo’s fiancée .

That fake engagement becomes the setup for Anna to meet Michael. The two start off with some back-and-forth tension, but their attraction grows quickly. Michael owns a vineyard and works with his family’s restaurant. Unlike Matteo, who barely appears in the movie after the beginning, Michael gets plenty of screen time with Anna. By the end, the couple runs through Michael’s vineyards together and shares a kiss under the sprinklers .

Anna Also Finds Her Purpose Again Through Cooking

The movie is not just about finding love. Anna rediscovers her passion for cooking during her time in Tuscany. She had dropped out of culinary school after her mother got sick and gave up on her dream of becoming a chef. Her mother was a chef, and the two had planned to travel through Italy together. When Anna starts helping out at the family’s restaurant in Tuscany, she slowly gets back into the kitchen. The family owns a struggling restaurant, and Anna’s skills help them out. By the end, she has found her way back to cooking and has a clear direction for her life again .

Matteo Also Gets a Happy Ending, But It Confuses Viewers

While Anna and Michael ride off into the sunset together, Matteo ends up back with his ex-fiancée Isabella. This part of the ending has left some viewers scratching their heads. Isabella spends most of the movie treating Anna badly and actively pursuing Matteo even though she thinks Anna is engaged to him. She is not given much depth as a character and comes across as just an obstacle for Anna. Despite that, the final family dinner scene shows Matteo and Isabella together as if nothing happened between them. The movie does not explain how they got back together or why the family would suddenly accept her after everything .

What Happens to Anna After the Movie Ends

The movie ends with a one-month time jump showing Anna and Michael still together and very happy. But the film leaves some questions unanswered. How does Anna actually move to Italy permanently? She has no job waiting for her back in the United States, and her best friend Claire is really her only tie to her old life. She also has no home or living relatives in America. Moving to Italy would be a positive change for her since she now has a job at the family restaurant and a relationship with Michael. But the movie does not show how she handles things like getting a visa, finding permanent housing, or saying goodbye to her life in New York for good .

The supporting cast brings extra life to the story. Aziza Scott plays Claire, Anna’s best friend who always tells her the truth even when it is hard to hear. Marco Calvani plays Lorenzo, a local taxi driver who becomes Anna’s guide and cheerleader in Italy. Nia Vardalos makes a cameo as Mrs. Dunn, one of Anna’s house sitting clients. Stella Pecollo plays Matteo’s sister, who adds some humor to the family scenes .

Director Kat Coiro Wanted to Bring Rom-Coms Back to Theaters

Director Kat Coiro, known for Marry Me starring Jennifer Lopez and episodes of She-Hulk, wanted to give audiences a classic romantic comedy experience. Producer Will Packer, who worked on Girls Trip and the Ride Along movies, said the film is meant to be an escape from real world problems. The movie was filmed on location in Tuscany, with cinematographer Danny Ruhlmann (Anyone But You) capturing the Italian countryside. The film runs for 104 minutes and carries a PG-13 rating for some strong language and sexual material .

The movie also makes references to other travel romances like Under the Tuscan Sun and Eat Pray Love. The Vardalos cameo connects the film to My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which also features a big, warm family eager to plan a wedding. Anna finds herself swept up in that same kind of family energy, even though she is lying about being engaged to their son .

Reviews for the movie have been mixed. Some critics say the film follows every rom-com rule without adding anything new. Others point out that Bailey and Page have solid chemistry and that the beautiful Italian scenery makes up for the predictable plot. Time Magazine called it “ridiculous but wholly enjoyable,” while Empire said the script is “drowning in cliché” but praised Bailey as “luminous.” Vulture described it as “a simulacrum of rom-com elements” that still provides pleasant escape .

Regé-Jean Page spoke about why he wanted to make a romantic comedy. He told ABC News that people want to laugh and feel good when they go to the movies. He said audiences want to walk out thinking love is possible and that they can make changes in their own lives. Halle Bailey said she connected with Anna’s journey of finding purpose again, even though she found her own path at a much younger age .

The movie also includes a post-credits blooper reel showing improvised moments from supporting cast members. Some reviewers noted that these outtakes got bigger laughs than anything in the main movie .
