Is Bullseye a mutant in the MCU? Daredevil: Born Again might reveal the truth
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been slowly introducing mutants, the super-powered beings who are often feared and hated by humans, into its stories. However, one of the most iconic villains of Daredevil, Bullseye, might have been a mutant all along, and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again project might confirm it.
Bullseye’s origin and powers
Bullseye is the alter ego of Benjamin Poindexter, a former FBI agent who became a deadly assassin for Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin. Bullseye has the ability to throw any object with perfect accuracy and lethal force, making him a formidable foe for the blind vigilante Daredevil.
Bullseye’s powers were revealed to have manifested when he was a child, after his parents died in a car accident. He was sent to Lyndhurst Home for Boys, where he honed his skills by throwing objects at other kids and animals. This is similar to how many mutants develop their powers after experiencing trauma or stress.
Bullseye’s connection to the Weapon X program
In the third season of Daredevil, which aired on Netflix in 2018, Bullseye was paralyzed by Kingpin after a brutal fight with Daredevil. In a post-credits scene, he was shown undergoing an experimental spine surgery, led by Dr. Kenji Oyama. This name might ring a bell for comic book fans, as Dr. Oyama was the creator of the Weapon X program, which gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton and claws.
The Weapon X program was a secret government project that experimented on mutants and enhanced their abilities with cybernetics. It also erased their memories and turned them into killing machines. Could Bullseye be one of the subjects of this program in the MCU? Could his surgery give him more enhancements, such as adamantium bones or weapons?
Mutants in the MCU
The MCU has been slowly introducing mutants into its stories, ever since it acquired the rights to use the X-Men characters from Fox. However, it has not yet used the term “mutants” to describe them, nor has it explored their origins or social implications.
Some of the characters who have been confirmed or hinted to be mutants in the MCU are:
- Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, who was revealed to have been born with chaos magic in WandaVision.
- Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, who was Wanda’s twin brother and had super-speed. He died in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but was briefly replaced by a multiverse version of himself in WandaVision.
- Namor, the Sub-Mariner, who is the ruler of Atlantis and has super-strength, durability, and aquatic abilities. He was mentioned as a potential threat by Okoye in Avengers: Endgame, and appeared in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
- Professor Charles Xavier and Hank McCoy, aka Beast, who are the leaders of the X-Men and have telepathy and super-intelligence, respectively. They appeared in a flashback scene in Loki, where they were seen meeting with Kang the Conqueror in the 31st century.
The upcoming Daredevil: Born Again project, which is rumored to be a movie or a Disney+ series, might finally address the mutant issue and reveal Bullseye as one of them. This could also pave the way for more mutant characters to join the MCU, such as the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and Deadpool.
