New CCTV footage of BTS‘s Suga is shedding new light on the idol’s drunk driving incident.
According to various Korean news outlets, Suga was found by police after he fell off his electric scooter and brought to Yongsan Police Station. The results for Suga’s blood alcohol test reportedly showed a blood alcohol level of 0.227%.
On August 7, news outlet JTBC aired CCTV footage, supposedly from Suga’s drunk driving incident. A report by DongA Ilbo now claims, however, that JTBC’s footage is false; the person in it is not Suga. JTBC has since removed the video.
Now, both Korean and international netizens are calling for an apology from JTBC for airing false footage. The new footage supports Suga’s claim that he drove to and fell in front of his home rather than driving on a main road in the opposite direction and falling elsewhere.
Public opinion was negatively impacted by the previously released footage, which contradicted details in Suga’s apology, such as his location and the distance he drove while intoxicated. Now, with the release of DongA Ilbo’s video, some fans, who believed Suga’s initial claims, are feeling vindicated and expressing their frustration.
Others have pointed to Suga’s character as the reason why so many fans “stood by him” after he took accountability for his actions.
