There’s been a report about Hanni from the group NewJeans and her visa status in South Korea. It’s been said that someone reported her as possibly staying in the country illegally.
Background on Hanni’s Visa
Hanni has dual citizenship in Australia and Vietnam. Because of this, she needs a visa to work in South Korea. She had an E-6 visa through ADOR, the agency she was with. There were claims that this visa might not be valid anymore because of changes in the contract between ADOR and NewJeans.
Official Response from Immigration
According to SpoTV, someone made an official report about Hanni’s residency status. On January 10, the Seoul Immigration Office under the Ministry of Justice released a statement. They said:
“We will take the necessary measures once the employment relationship is resolved.”
The Korea Times also reported on this. The Seoul Immigration Office explained that they can’t share specific details about individual cases. They also said:
“We cannot provide specific details regarding whether a particular foreign individual has violated immigration laws. […] For foreign entertainers staying under the E-6 visa, their residency status and duration are determined based on employment contracts with local agencies. Appropriate measures will be taken once the employment relationship is resolved.”
This means that the immigration office will look into the matter once Hanni’s work situation is sorted out.
What This Means for Hanni
If Hanni’s visa with ADOR is officially over, she will need a new visa to stay and work in South Korea. She could get a new E-6 visa through a different agency. Another option is a D-10 job seeker visa. If she doesn’t get a new visa, she might have to leave South Korea within 15 days.
