Samantha Ruth Prabhu has made history with her latest film Maa Inti Bangaaram. The action-comedy drama has officially become the highest-grossing female-led Telugu film of all time. It broke a 17-year-old record held by Anushka Shetty‘s Arundhati (2009). The movie achieved this milestone in just ten days of its theatrical run.

A Record-Breaking Box Office Run

Maa Inti Bangaaram was released on June 19, 2026. The film has earned over ₹83 crore worldwide as of its 12th day in cinemas. This number surpassed the lifetime collection of Arundhati, which had earned approximately ₹70 crore worldwide during its entire run.

According to trade reports, the film collected ₹5.30 crore net in India on its 10th day alone. This was an 8.2% jump from the previous day. The total India net collection reached ₹48.25 crore, while the India gross crossed ₹55.86 crore. The overseas market also performed strongly, adding ₹1 crore on Day 10 and pushing the international gross to ₹22.85 crore.

The film’s production budget was around ₹20 crore. With its current earnings, Maa Inti Bangaaram has made nearly four times its production cost.

The Record That Stood for 17 Years

Arundhati, directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, was released in 2009. At the time, it was a major achievement for female-led commercial cinema. The horror fantasy film showed that a woman could lead a large-scale theatrical release and compete with male-star films. For 17 years, no other solo female-led Telugu film could match that number. This happened even as the industry saw massive growth through male-led blockbusters like Baahubali, Pushpa, and Kalki 2898 AD.

Some people point to Mahanati (2018), starring Keerthy Suresh, as a film that earned more. It collected around ₹85 crore worldwide. However, experts say the comparison is not equal. Mahanati had a huge ensemble cast, including Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, and Samantha herself in a cameo. It was also a biopic based on a beloved real-life figure, which gave it a built-in audience. Both Arundhati and Maa Inti Bangaaram are original commercial films. They succeed based purely on the audience’s interest in a solo female lead. There is no ensemble cast or real-life story to rely on.

Director Nandini Reddy’s Reaction

Director Nandini Reddy shared her joy on social media after the film’s success. She expressed her gratitude to the audience.

About the Film

Maa Inti Bangaaram is an action-comedy drama directed by BV Nandini Reddy. The film is produced by Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Raj Nidimoru, and Himank Reddy Duvvuru. The production banner is Tralala Moving Pictures. Raj Nidimoru wrote the story and screenplay with Vasanth Maringanti and Prahas Boppudi.

The film also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Diganth Manchale, Sreemukhi, Manjusha Mukkavilli, and Gautami in key roles. The story follows Swarna (Samantha), a woman meeting her husband’s family for the first time. She struggles to impress her in-laws, but her dark and violent past starts to surface, threatening her new life.

A Major Personal Achievement for Samantha

This is Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s biggest solo success to date. It has beaten the lifetime earnings of her previous solo films Oh! Baby (₹38 crore) and Yashoda (₹32.13 crore). While she has been part of bigger grossing films like Mersal and Rangasthalam, those were male-led projects. Maa Inti Bangaaram marks her biggest success as the sole lead actor.

The film’s performance shows a shift in audience taste. It proves that audiences are willing to support a film based on its content, not just the gender of the lead actor. The film also saw strong support from women moviegoers, which Samantha acknowledged, saying it was “hugely humbling.”

The film also remains on track to cross the ₹100 crore mark globally. With its strong word of mouth and steady box office run, it continues to rewrite Telugu cinema history.
