The final season of The Law According To Lidia Poet is now streaming on Netflix, bringing the story of Italy’s first female lawyer to a close. The third season dropped on April 15, 2026, and fans have been quick to watch all six episodes of this historical drama. The show follows Matilda De Angelis as Lidia Poet, a woman fighting to practice law in 19th-century Italy. This season puts Lidia in her toughest position yet as she defends her best friend Grazia (played by Liliana Bottone) who is accused of murdering her husband. The case forces Lidia to face not just the court system but also her own complicated feelings for two different men.

The Trial Against Grazia Hits Major Roadblocks

The central case of season three revolves around Grazia Fontana, Lidia’s closest friend, who admits to stabbing her husband Guido Fontana. Grazia says she acted in self-defense after suffering abuse from him. What seems like a straightforward defense quickly falls apart when the key medical witness gets disqualified. Tullio Munari, the doctor who was supposed to testify about the bruises on Grazia’s body, gets arrested for his own sister’s murder. After police clear him of that crime, the court learns that Munari was in love with Grazia. This makes his testimony biased and the judge throws it out completely.

Without Munari’s medical evidence, Lidia loses her strongest proof that Grazia acted to save her own life. The defense team then discovers that Grazia’s husband owned a mansion in Avigliana. Lidia and Jacopo (played by Eduardo Scarpetta) go there to search for evidence. They learn that Fontana brought a 16-year-old girl named Amira from Eritrea, where he served in the navy. The young girl suffered abuse at Fontana’s hands and later died. Lieutenant Povano, the local police chief and Fontana’s friend, helped hide the body and cover up the crime.

Lidia and Jacopo find Povano trying to move Amira’s remains. He pulls a gun on them but accidentally drops it. He locks them in a cellar instead. Enrico (played by Pier Luigi Pasino) and Consuelo rescue them just in time. The story about Fontana being a murderer makes the newspapers. But the court refuses to accept this new evidence because Lidia did not submit it before the trial started.

The Prosecution Pushes For The Death Penalty

The situation turns even worse for Grazia when the prosecution suddenly demands the death penalty. Fourneau (played by Gianmarco Saurino), who is now a prosecutor in the Court of Assizes, handles the case against Grazia. But his harsh closing statement catches everyone off guard. Judge Davanzati had found train tickets that Fourneau booked for himself and Lidia to Vienna. The judge blackmailed Fourneau, threatening to expose their secret relationship to the press unless he delivered a specific speech.

Fourneau gives a speech filled with misogynistic language, saying women act on impulse and do not give men what they deserve. He calls for the death penalty for Grazia, something that has not happened in 20 years. This betrayal hits Lidia hard. Fourneau was not just her opponent in court but also someone she had grown close to personally. The show spends much of the season showing Lidia in a relationship with Fourneau while Jacopo returns to Turin with a new girlfriend named Consuelo, a Spanish opera singer.

Enrico’s Closing Argument Changes Everything

With everything falling apart, Enrico Poet steps up to give the defense’s closing statement. He does not try to match Fourneau’s aggression. Instead, he speaks from a place of compassion. He points out the unfairness of the situation. If Fontana had killed Grazia, the law would have given him only six years in prison. But Grazia faces death for protecting herself.

Enrico asks the jury what it would take for them to feel empathy for Grazia. He says it would take her death. He reminds the men in the jury that their decision will shape the future for all the daughters of Italy. The courtroom, filled with feminists and supporters, breaks into loud applause. The judge tries to stop them but cannot control the emotional response.

Back in her cell, Grazia accepts whatever will happen next. Her cellmate Virginia manages to break through the bars and wants them to escape together. But Grazia refuses to run. She chooses to face the court’s decision. Virginia decides to stay with her friend instead of fleeing alone. When the jury returns with their verdict, they declare Grazia innocent on all charges. She runs to hug her daughter Mila, finally free.

Lidia And Jacopo Reconnect After The Trial

Throughout the season, Lidia finds herself caught between two men. She starts the season involved with Fourneau, keeping their relationship secret because she does not want to marry or settle down. Meanwhile, Jacopo returns to Turin with Consuelo, his new partner. But the old feelings between Lidia and Jacopo never truly disappear.

The romantic tension becomes unavoidable once Fourneau takes on Grazia’s case. Being on opposite sides in court puts stress on whatever Lidia and Fourneau had built. By the end of the season, the show makes it clear that Lidia and Jacopo were always meant to find their way back to each other. The finale shows them reconnecting after the trial ends, suggesting they will spend their lives together.

The real Lidia Poet, however, never married. She lived until age 93 or 94 and stayed single on purpose. She understood that marriage would force her to follow her husband’s orders, even if he was a progressive man. Remaining unmarried gave her the freedom to work for women, children, and marginalized communities until her death in 1949. The show chooses a happier, more romantic ending for its fictional version of Lidia.

Lidia Sees Her Future As A Lawyer

Late in the final episode, while trapped in the cellar, Lidia has a vision of her future. She sees herself growing older and finally becoming an official lawyer. This moment gives her the strength to keep fighting even when everything seems hopeless.

The real Lidia Poet received official recognition on November 20, 1920, when she was 65 years old. The show’s third season takes place in 1887, meaning the real Lidia waited 33 more years after these events to achieve her goal. The vision scene connects the fictional story to historical reality without pretending that success came quickly or easily.

The final season of The Law According To Lidia Poet is now available for streaming on Netflix worldwide. All six episodes dropped on April 15, 2026. This marks the end of the series, as Netflix decided not to continue the show beyond its third season.
