The latest CBS drama episode reveals a murder plot, a stolen drug money scheme, and a near-confession from Boone.
The May 1, 2026 episode of Sheriff Country, Sheriff Country Episode 17, titled “The Hunting Party,” delivered a packed hour of drama for Morena Baccarinโs character, Sheriff Mickey Fox. What started as a deadly hunting accident quickly turned into an attempted murder investigation, all while the Edgewater Sheriffโs Department dealt with a high-stakes battle with the DEA over millions in drug money.
A Deadly Weekend at the Fraley Estate
The episode kicks off with the wealthy Fraley family hosting a boar hunting weekend. The event was meant to impress potential investors for their struggling timber business. Skye Fraley (Amanda Arcuri), Mickeyโs daughter, tries to involve her cousin Rick, who just left rehab, hoping to give him a win. But Rick starts drinking and refuses to stop.
The situation turns deadly when a guest named Larry is shot in front of Miranda Fraley. Everyone calls it a hunting accident, but the evidence says otherwise. Mickey discovers Larry was hit by a larger caliber bullet than what the other hunters were using. Someone hid in a hunting tower and waited for the right moment.

The Target Was Never the Investor
Mickey pieces together the crime scene and realizes Miranda stepped forward just before the shot. Larry was never the intended victim. Miranda Fraley was the real target all along.
The Sheriffโs office calls Miranda to warn her, but the shooter tries again. Miranda ducks just in time, but the danger isn’t over. Mickey insists Miranda and her son leave the estate and stay at Mickeyโs house for safety, with a deputy stationed outside. Miranda brings her own gun.
The investigation leads Mickey to Cal Webb, a man Miranda recently fired. Even though Miranda helped him find a new job, Webb couldn’t handle feeling like a failure to his family. He decides to finish the job at Mickeyโs house. Mickey stops him and arrests him before he can hurt Miranda again.
The DEA Comes for the Drug Money
While Mickey handles the murder case, a separate crisis unfolds. The DEA demands the $3 million in drug money Mickeyโs team seized. They claim the money links to drug dealers from Colorado. Mickey doesnโt want to hand it over. She calls her old DEA contact, Alec Kane (Wes Chatham), for help.
Alec tells Mickey he cannot help because he needs that money for a bigger case. The two argue, but Alec eventually creates a joint task force. The Sheriffโs office gets about $500,000 in return. Mickey agrees and gives up the money.
But Wes (W. Earl Brown), Mickeyโs father, has other plans. He knows a safecracker and teams up with the local growerโs co-op. They steal the money right from under the DEAโs nose while Mickey is busy with the Fraley case.
A Love Story That Almost Happened
While Mickey deals with killers and stolen cash, Boone (Matt Lauria) tries to find the right moment to ask her out. He has tickets to a baseball game featuring his favorite team against Mickeyโs favorite team. Gina (Caroline Rhea) figures out Boone has feelings for Mickey and tries to help him plan the perfect date.
But Boone gets nervous. He tells Gina he would be asking Mickey as just a friend because dating his boss would be wrong. At the end of the episode, Boone is seconds away from asking Mickey out but backs down. He doesn’t know that Mickey invited Alec over to her house that same night.
What the Shooting Reveals About Miranda
The investigation into the hunting party shows how much pressure Miranda is under. The timber industry has been losing money for years. Miranda started laying off workers at Fraley Mills, a business controlled by four generations of her family. She threw the hunting party hoping to save the company so she wouldn’t have to cut everyoneโs insurance. But one angry former employee decided to take violent action instead.
At the end of the episode, Miranda almost kills Cal Webb herself after Mickey arrests him. Mickey talks her down, reminding her she cannot shoot an unarmed man in handcuffs. Miranda goes home, while Rick goes to an AA meeting with Skye and Bode.
