A new three-part documentary series is getting ready to air on Netflix, and it is going straight into one of the most talked-about legal events in music history. The first trailer for Michael Jackson: The Verdict dropped on May 20, 2026, and it promises a raw, unfiltered look at the 2005 child molestation trial that kept the whole world watching.

The series is scheduled for a global release on June 3, 2026. It comes at a time when the late King of Pop is back in the spotlight thanks to the massive box office success of the biopic Michael.

A Look Inside the Courtroom Without Cameras

Back in 2005, cameras were not allowed inside the Santa Barbara County courthouse. Because of that, most people only saw the drama through news reports and commentary. Michael Jackson: The Verdict wants to fix that by talking directly to the people who were actually in the room.

The docuseries is led by director Nick Green and showrunner David Herman. It features new interviews with jurors, eyewitnesses, members of the prosecution and defense, and even journalists who covered the case every single day.

“It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson in which he was found not guilty. Yet, to this day, controversy still rages,” the filmmakers said.

What the Trailer Reveals About the 2005 Case

The trailer opens with tense footage of police searching Neverland Ranch. A voiceover sets the scene by saying: “He’s the most famous man in the world, being accused of the most heinous crime in the world.”

Michael Jackson was arrested in 2003 and charged with multiple counts of child molestation involving 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo, who was a cancer patient at the time. The trial officially started in January 2005 and lasted several months. It ended on June 13, 2005, with Jackson being found not guilty on all 10 counts.

One juror appears in the trailer explaining how they reached their decision. “What has to be proven is beyond a reasonable doubt. Can you doubt that happened?” the juror says.

Celebrity Witnesses and Media Frenzy

The 2005 trial was known for the huge number of famous faces who showed up to support Michael Jackson. Macaulay Culkin, the Home Alone star, was one of the key defense witnesses. Chris Tucker, Jay Leno, and George Lopez also testified on his behalf.

Macaulay Culkin, who knew Jackson as a child, has stated in past interviews that Jackson “never did anything to me.” The trailer reportedly shows clips of Culkin arriving at the courthouse.

The documentary will also cover the 1993 allegations involving Jordan Chandler, which ended in a reported $23 million civil settlement. However, the main focus of this series is strictly the 2005 criminal trial.

Fans React to the Timing of the Netflix Documentary

Not everyone is happy about this release. Some fans believe Netflix is trying to “cash in” on the buzz from the Michael biopic, which recently crossed $600 million at the global box office.

Supporters of the singer argue that he was already found not guilty by a jury. They feel that revisiting these accusations is unnecessary and hurts his legacy. Online comments have called the release date choice “crazy smart” for business, but painful for those who believe in Jackson’s innocence.

On the other side, some viewers and critics argue that the accusations should not be forgotten. The trailer includes a moment where an interviewee says they believe Jackson used his fame to get away with crimes.

What the Series Will Cover

Michael Jackson: The Verdict is produced by Candle True Stories and executive produced by Fiona Stourton and James Goldston, the former president of ABC News. Each of the three episodes will run for about 50 minutes.

Unlike Leaving Neverland, which focused on the stories of two adult accusers (Wade Robson and James Safechuck), this new series specifically focuses on the legal arguments and evidence presented during the 2005 trial.

“No cameras were allowed in court, and so the public’s view of the facts at the time were filtered by commentators and presented piecemeal. It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole,” the filmmakers said.

Global Streaming Details

Michael Jackson: The Verdict will be available to stream on Netflix starting June 3, 2026. Subscribers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions will all get access on the same day.

The series arrives more than 15 years after Michael Jackson passed away in 2009. Even decades after the trial, the debate over what really happened remains a sensitive topic for music fans around the world.
