The black-and-white episode showed how Warren made a deal with the devil to protect the island, which turned him into an immortal monster. The townspeople finally buried him alive to stop him.
“The show is so bold to just drop this flashback to colonial times in the middle of the season,” Linklater told Polygon. “Right in the middle, we’re going to have an episode where none of our stars are there and these two randos show up and take over the narrative. That’s baller.”
Episode 7 “Seasickness” returned to the present. Mayor Tom Loftis dug up Warren’s body. The cursed founder agreed to a deal: end his suffering and the island’s curse would break. The only way to kill Warren was to take him out to sea since anyone born on the island dies if they leave. The boat trip turned violent when Warren ate some canned sausages and regained his strength.
